LG VX5300 USB Cable

I've added lines on a family plan and selected the 5300 as one of the
phones primarily because I have USB cables and other accessories for a
VX5200. In my research, I found a couple of sources for cables that
would fit both a 5200 and a 5300 and was hoping that my old cables would
fit the 5300. They are very close except for the "notches" on the flat
side of the cable end. The 5200 has 3 alternating notches
|--|_|--|_|--| while the 5300 has a wide gap between just 2 notches
|--|______|--| . It looks like the connector would fit it the center
notch were removed.

Before I start carving on the connector and frying my new phone, does
anyone have experience with these 2 phones that would indicate that the
pin configuration is the same and that the cable will work if I alter it
to make it fit?

I have the same question about altering a vx5200 usb cable to connect with a vx5300. Did you ever find out if you can do it?
