Default LG VX8300 - Get Rid of "1" as Voicemail Speed Dial???

I really need to get rid of the voicemail speed dial on this phone, it's
factory set to speed dial "1" and of course this is where I've always put
the most important number that I call and I have multiple phones set the
same way, including home phones.

This is driving me absolutely nuts! I possibly wouldn't even have upgraded
to this phone if I would have known this. I do computer programming and
can't believe there's no way to change this damn thing, I am going to find
a way or possibly take the new phone and put a one shaped boot kick imprint
into it.

I've read a little on this and seen a couple threads where people had the
same problem but the few authoritative words seem to be that Verizon locked
it in this way and made it unchangeable on purpose. Usually such smart
people, this really ticks me off if there is really no way to override
this.

Press MENU
go to MESSAGING
press SETTINGS (left soft key)
press OK (ALL MSG should be highlighted)
press VOICE MAIL #
erase what's there and put in whatever.

That only changes *what happens* when the phone goes to voice mail but does
nothing about my problem which is getting rid of the "1" as speed dial for
voicemail. I want to decide for myself if I want a voicemail speed dial
and if so which number it gets, I don't want Verizon forcing me to use "1."
I use "1" for something else and always have and this is my problem getting
rid of "1" = voicemail.

AFAIK, it can't be done on the 8300. You know, the 1 for VM is so common,
even across carriers, that I think you'd be better off finding another
number for your favs.

I have a 8300 and a Treo 700wx. I can change this (or eliminate it) on the
Treo, but not the 8300. I'm sure most of VZW's phones are like the 8300 in
this regard.
