Default Modem Card vs Tethering

I had posted a few weeks ago asking questions about a modem card.

After that I went to the Verizon store and was told I would have to purchase
a new plan along with the card. $60/month (or was it $80). But then a sales
associate mentioned that I could use my Q as a modem, for an extra $15 on
top of the $45 I was already paying for my data option.

So, I signed up. The set up and software download was easy. It's not the
fastest connection but it works for my limited needs.

The tethered connection is as fast as the dedicated modem card connection.
The ONLY downside is that you cannot talk and surf at the same time while
tethered. The plusses are that you don't need an extra plan.

Right. But if you had both, so you could surf and talk at the same time, it
would cost twice as much for data, plus the voice capability on the regular
voice plan.

Yes - and no.....

If regular EVDO maybe.
If Rev A, probably not.

Because most phones are NOT RevA - yet.

Most cards are nowadays - or let's just say one
should ONLY buy a RevA card nowadays.

BS. VZW is not Rev A capable anyway and probably won't be for a couple of
years. Hell, they haven't even completed EVDO yet.

You are totally 100% incorrect

Go do a bit of research before you spout off next time...
It is in fact the exact OPPOSITE of what you stated.

Most areas are EVDO, many now RevA - the boonies
are now the only places that are 1XRTT.

Check the facts next time bucko...

Use zip code 76236 and ask what kind of antenna array gives that
kind of straight line east to west coverage.

More than that because the cell signal varies so much with topography
the EVDO signal will very dramatically and your speed goes downhill
faster than a bobsled. Finally you may find the phone switched over
the butt ugly slow 1RX which is really what Verizon has all over. I
live in an EVDO area and can find dramatic differences just by walking
from room to room. I hate the unreliable Verizon data signal so bad I
dropped the unlimited use and went to pay by the minute. Now I use
WIFI as much as possible and plan my stops accordingly.

I only use EVDO or 1RX when I need a detailed traffic report before
jumping on an interstate.
