Sit back, breathe normally, close your eyes.
Now, ask yourself "Why?"......"Why do I need one of these?"
PDA? Not much. Hobbled all up by Verizon who thinks, wrongly, they're
going to sell you some unnecessary service Bluetooth would have done if
they hadn't hobbled it all up and gotten sued over it.....
Camera? The cheapest digital snapshot camera Walmart sells takes better
pictures because it's made to be a CAMERA, not a phone....and you don't
have to sign a slave contract with WalMart to buy it!
Internet? What internet? WAP? That IS funny! The tiny screens are too
tiny for even a kid to read if it has a real webpage on it. It has
virtually NO STORAGE, so saving something is a joke. Even if you DO save
"it", Verizon wants you to pay to transfer it to your big
computer...hobbled all up, again. What bullshit.
The other question is more basic:
"Do I want to become an indentured servant slave to Verizon Wireless for
2 years of my life, again, just to possess this hobbled-up gadget?"
There, now doesn't your cellphone look much better?! Feel its quality
and look at the wonderful "character" of an old friend who has served you
so well. Remember that sweet little thing you scored you wouldn't have
scored if this wonderful old friend you're holding didn't help you.
Geez, and you're just tossing the best friend you ever had? How awful!
Buy it a new battery or slick carrying case.
After your RFID implant, THEN it won't matter if you have a GPS tracker
phone or not. I'll wait, too.

Don't listen to Larry...
He a nabob of negativity and rarely has anything positive to say.
That and the nutty conspiracy theories and rabid anti-Semitism...
To your question: it's a decent phone.
The phone has respectable performance. As a phone, it works fairly well.
The form factor is great, slim and light, yet still has a good 'feel'.
Larry is correct that it really isn't a PDA or a camera replacement - it isn't
meant to be. Just keep that in mind. Nice to take a snap in a pinch, but that
is it. You can also sync it with Windows Media Player for tunes if you want.
It isn't an iPod, but will do in a pinch.
He mentions Bluetooth and Verizon "hobbling" it. Easily remedied however.
(Explore howardforums.com - all info and alot more there)
With a little work on your part - ANY function needed can be restored easily.
Larry mentions "storage". What the moron fails to understand is that the V3m
has a slot for a microSD card. Get a 1G or 2G card and have storage up the wazoo.
And again, with a little hofo magic, you can EASILY transfer content to wherever.
Certainly the Internet on such a small device has it's limits. But then, having Internet
when you are out and about and really need it is VERY handy. Remember, you'd
have Google in your pocket, at all times. Need to find the nearest Best Buy? But,
sitting in your car? You can find out easily right then and there. I look at the DOT
traffic page all the time - VERY handy. There are MANY reasons why having a way to
pull info from the Internet in your pocket wherever/whenever is great. I do agree that the
screen isn't big enough to do extensive browsing, but again it isn't meant to.
And, you can tether the V3m and use it as a modem with a laptop, etc, if you really need
a bigger screen. VZW does ding you $15 for this (which is BS in my opinion)
I'll let the rest of Larry's rant slide - the loony paranoia is quite obvious.

I'll offer a reason to buy it to counter the post by "Larry".
I've used the camera a few times. For those "dammit I wish I had a camera
with me" moments, its fine.
I don't use the phone as a PDA. I have a PDA for that.
I use my Razr mainly as a phone, and as a phone, its the best damned
performing cellphone I've ever had, and I've had cellphones for 12 years
now. It works in all the places where other phones have been marginal at
best. I am **VERY** happy with it, and only wish I had bought one sooner.
I'll also echo what "Ness net" had to say. Any crippling in bluetooth or
other features done by Verizon is easily undone. Use the HoFo, Luke...
And the pretty pink color stands out from all the crap on my desk, so I
haven't lost it yet. Unlike gray and silver phones, which disappear almost
immediately :-)

I couldn't figure out why a pink RAZR cost $100 more online when getting
my EasyPay service, so I stuck with the silver one. I presume the
pigment color on the metal plates does not significantly affect the
performance of the unit, so I stuck with the more affordable color.
This reminds me of how the old Bell System used to charge more for
renting color phones rather than the basic black. And we could never
figure out how the colored phones sounded any better for that price.

Were there a price difference when I bought mine, I'd have to agree with
you. If the phone were a piece of junk, it doesn't matter if its gray
(silver...it looks gray to me) junk or pink junk :-)
As it is, when I bought mine there was no price difference, so I opted
for something I could easily find in all the clutter. If you could see
my desk here, you'd understand immediately.

Actually, tethering EVDO phones on VZW costs $59. You can force the phone
to 1xRTT and just use minutes with no additional charges.

Actually, if you have the ~$5/mo mobile web option, you can use EVDO when
tethering for only minutes of use too.

How is the battery life on this phone in a weak signal( "2 bars") area?
Verizon website claims 440 hours or, doing the math, 18 days, but we
know that is fiction.
I have an E815 that will last 3-4 days, will the V3m match that?

OOPS.. that is the K1m with the 440 hour life. The V3m is only 325 hours
or so.

Unlike the incorrect info at hofo, there is a new option (currently only
available with some zip codes), where for $15 a month you can tether your
phone and just use minutes... In this case, since hofo is lying, I think
they may be an enemy...
I think in addition to the mobile web, you may have to have premium network
listed on your account (I do). I've had "national access" for many years. In
any event, I am using EVDO data for MOU only. I see the MOU on my bill. And
I see the EVDO connection (tested) speeds on my phone.
Incidently, these features remained the same when I changed two separate ACI
plans (that had reverted to mo2mo) to one Family plan with a 2 year
agreement. Data before and data after.

I had 1X/MOU until I upgraded my phone last week. I ordered the phone and
also activated it over the net, keeping the same plan. When I couldn't
connect with 1X I called TS and was told that anyone upgrading phones or
changing plans WILL lose the mou plan. This person and I had a personality
conflict so I said good-bye and called again.
This time TS tried to help me with the problem until he realized that the
LG8300 was EVDO capable. At that time he informed me that he was sorry, but
with a EVDO capable phone, enabling 1X would also allow me to connect to
EVDO without paying for it, so he wasn't allowed to do that. So, there is
no work-around for that, 1X on my account is blocked.
He also told me that VZW originally allowed mou so that users would get used
to having BB available.

That sounds like my desk. I do have a place to recharge the RAZR right
above the desktop, so the USB cable drapes around the back of the desk
up through a hole cut in it and forward. The cable also serves the
SanDisk 12 in 1 card reader, with the same miniature USB connector which
Motos use these days.

That's one of the things I love about my V3. I must have a dozen cables
and chargers that use that same mini-USB connector. And if I want more,
they are readily available just about anywhere, as opposed to the silly
proprietary connectors that many other phones use.
