Default moving files from phone to phone

I would like to move several pictures, videos, and ringtones from my
old Motorola RAZR V3M to my newer Samsung Sway. Although I prefer my
RAZR it is wearing down physically and since I paid for the Sway I may
as well use it.

Both phones have a MicroSD slot and since I've never used the slots I'm
not quite sure if I can just get a card, move the stuff I want from the
RAZR to the Sway and be done with it. Will this work or are they
different formats and incompatible.

The other thing I could do is send the files to myself via VZW's
messaging service. My concern there is when I send the messages from
the RAZR and don't accept them immediately will they still be available
for downloading when I activate the Sway?

It'll work.

That could get costly!

You can use the Micro SD memory card to transfer files to your computer.
You would need a "reader" to allow your computer to make use of it. I
have a couple of such things here:
1. Motorola SYN1114A Takes an SD card or, with an adapter, a Micro SD card.
2. San Disk Image Mate 8 in 1. Takes SD/MMC, xD/SM and xD.

There are probably a few other similar gadgets.

You should be able to install the card, transfer the data from wherever it
resides now, to the card, then install the card in the new phone

Apparently this won't work. I put files on the MicroSD card with my
RAZR but the Sway would not read them and required the card to be
formatted. BestBuy moved all the stuff from one phone to the other for
free though.

Problem solved.

Next time, put files on MicroSD, read into PC, move card to Sway, allow
format, load files from PC to card.

You missed a step. Move files onto card then onto your computer. Format
the card on the new phone then move the files onto it.
