Default National single rate

I have had it ( National Single Rate )for years. Aug. 05 I got a new
phone and they renewed the plan for one year. Since June of this year
when they went to a new billing system in the northeast my bill has been
really messed up. Every month they work on it and "fix" it but the next
month it is messed up again. This month again it is wrong. I called
again and after a bunch of "consolations" they say I cannot have the
plan anymore. They claim the computer caught an error and I never
should have been able to renew the plan in Aug. 05. I am getting the
old ACII plan is better than what you have and you will have to switch
to it. Any words of wisdom or what to do to keep my old plan??

AJ,

What kind of area are you in----that is, are you sure you need the NSR plan?
I ask because I kept my old SingleRate East plan for years after they ceased
to offer it. I finally broke down and went with AC I (and now AC II) and
never looked back. Never been a problem. Turns out I worried for nothing.

Of course, your mileage can and probably will vary. I strongly suggest you
post the location of your home, work, and expected travel areas, and inquire
how AC coverage is for those specific areas. I am in a northwestern suburb
of NYC, and travel regularly to Florida and Pennsylvania, so of course
coverage for me is excellent, but if you're in parts of the Midwest, the
Carolinas, the Pacific NW or certainly other areas you'll undoubtedly hear
about, you may not be as lucky.

I find the IN-calling and nights and weekends calling features to be
invaluable. What a pleasure to be able to call friends from Florida at no
extra charge!

HTH,
Dean

I spend at least 6 months of the year in an RV. I live near Albany,
NY but am now in Az. The main problem is that I never know where I will
be or where I am going .. The thing with the National single rate was
that I have had coverage just about everywhere I have been though that
has been mainly in the east and south.

Jim, I used to RV fulltime, but haven't in many years.....

How much wifi do they have in RV parks, now? What kind of charges are
there to use it? We sail, now, and lots of marinas are giving up charging
for wifi and providing it to anyone in range.

Just curious on the RV side...thanks.

Same on the RV side... Texas has free WiFi in their rest areas.

The quality of Skype calls is something left to be desired. Even worse
than a bad cell phone on a good day.

Thats why it's free. Anything that has to do with PayPal,Ebay. I stay
very far away. After reading things on www.paypalsucks,com I'm surprised
they get away with what they do.

I had single rate with Verizon 2 years ago and did travel for my
employer a bit. My experience was that if the roaming cell provider did
not have an agreement with Verizon, and most did not, they would ask for
a credit card. I saw little or no advantage to the National Single Rate
plan.
YMMV.

I had National Single Rate from 9/2000 until 12/05. We lived in our RV
from 7/96 until 5/05 so we were always traveling. All this time I was
NEVER asked for a credit card to make a call. If there was a signal on
the phone, I could use it without any extra charge.

Once my bill had charges for the use of Amps while we were in Maine. A
phone call to Verizon and they were reversed.

I know many other fulltime RVers who had National Single Rate and none
were asked for a credit card. My guess is that you had a different plan.

I don't know what's wrong with your system, buy Skype calls from
Charleston, SC to my friends in Europe, Japan and the Middle East are as
clear as sitting across the table from them in a nice, quiet restaurant and
certainly well above the pitiful 8Kbps or 11Kbps cellphone encoding speeds
that make music on hold sound like shit.

You need a better mic and headset....

They renewed the plan. Computer "error" or not it's a contract. If
they don't want to honor the contract, file in small claims. That'll
get their attention.
