Default NE2 phone cost issue rant

I'm up for my NE2 on Dec 17th, but talking to CS they said I could
upgrade now.
So I want LG8300 which I can get online for $99(plus there is a $50
instant rebate online).
But the instant rebate doesn't matter because I get $100 Credit for
NE2. CU says I have to pay
$49 and send in for rebate. I don't get it. Why should I have to pay
when phone is less than NE2?
I told them I'd wait and get phone online on the 17th. But it bugs me
that prices change from web, to phone, to store.
Thanks
em

I think you get an extra $50 break for ordering online.

You are confusing a discounted phone (for 2 yr contract - for which you are
entitled when you are at the 22 month point) with NE2 which is a completely
separate program, independent of the discounted price.

You are never entitled to NE2 earlier than the full two years. Some folks
NE2 date is different than their contract fulfillment date. You have to meat
the criteria for each to be entitled to use both at the same time. If you
get a new phone (even if only via the discounted contract method) your NE2
date starts over at that time.

So... if you are doing this before your full NE2 date, you are only getting
the discounted price for reaching the 22nd month of your 2 yr contract. You
are not getting any NE2 deal. If you wait until your NE2 deal comes up, you
could get a phone that, even after your 22nd month discount, is still $100,
for free.

See?

Possibly you visited the wrong venue. Yesterday I dropped in on the Verizon
store at 101 Arch St. Result: new 8300s for me and my wife, FREE. ($150 - $100
NE2 - $50 mail-in + BOGO (Verizonese for "Buy one, get one free") = $0.) ;^)

BTW, remember that in Verizonworld, 2 yr = 22 months. So you may or may not
get a better deal on the 17th!

That assertion is false. Based both on my own experience (two consecutive
exercises of NE2) and what I've seen in writing and been told by several
Verizon salesmen, you are always eligible for NE2 at 22 months.

This is what I can find in writing...

"You must retain the same wireless handset for 24 months in order to receive
the full advantages of this program. If you choose to replace your handset
at a discounted price, you will forfeit your benefits and be automatically
reenrolled if you meet the requirements of the program."

That's a load of crap. Like someone else said, the "2 year period" is
22 months. Strange, but true. Log onto your VZW account online and
look at the "New Every Two" meter. It will show you when you're
eligible for a NE2.

I got my current phone in July 2006. According to the meter, I'm
eligible for NE2 in May 2008.

It's ALWAYS been. Or at least it has been for a while.

Two-year discounts have always been available two months before
contract end. If there are any one-year discounts left, they would be
too.. (i.e. after 10 months)

1 year contracts do not qualify for NE2 anymore. Two year contracts
only.

"...Our New Every Two program is available to you by maintaining a 2-
year contract. If you would like to sign up for a 2-year contract today,
your phone will be less expensive and you will remain enrolled in the
New Every Two program. If you upgrade your phone without a 2-year
contract, you will lose the future benefit and will automatically be de-
enrolled. ..."
