I have a verizon HTC incredible, and I am reasonably pleased with it
and verizon's service.
A major annoyance:
None of the email clients I have tried for the Android system allow an
easy way to set up folders to save those incoming emails you want to
save and those outgoing emails you want to save.

I've used K9 for email and I believe it will save emails if set up
correctly, AAMOF I think that's why I got it.
I don't have an Android phone activated now but give it a try, it's
free from the marketplace so what can you lose?

I downloaded K-9 but did not see a way to set up folders. I emailed the
author of the program, but, so far, no response. Thanks for your response.

I use Yahoo! for email. I set up the folders on my regular computer and
those folders are also available with the Yahoo! Mail app.

Umm, not sure what you mean. Gmail works just fine with a long press and
change label. K9 does a similar option with a long press.

A long press on what, exactly? And this leads to a way to set up named
folders and send received or sent emails to them?

Long press on the message from the inbox. What are you trying to setup?
A one by one way to save stuff?

At a guess, he wants to be able to store messages in ways similar to,
say, the Thunderbird mail client, or that <obscenity deleted> from
Microsoft. I almost never use the Microsoft product. Thunderbird
allows me to store messages in "folders"; mine are labeled "E-Bay",
"Humor", "Health Care", "PayPal", "Personal", etc, etc. Microsoft
provides a similar facility but I'm not really familiar with it.
It beats the hell out leaving everything in a single large heap!
You may have to decide between something "politically correct" and
something with the features you want.

yes, one a one by one basis, or automatically or what.

I am trying to set up a system whereby:
I can "store" those incoming emails I want to save in a folder labeled,
oh, something really dense, like: Storage
and
I can "store" emails I've sent and want to save in a folderlabeled, oh,
something equally dense, like: Sent
:>)
Now, can anyone provide some help for this in simple, step by step English?

There's no "Move" on that list.
There's no folder list. There is an outbox, which I found, thanks to
poking around.

Not sure, I can't find that off hand, but you can use a desktop app to do that

Reading this thread, I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you use
POP-based email, and Justin is using IMAP. With IMAP, you're actually
creating the folder structure on the email server itself, (either via a
webmail interface or in your email client on PC or mobile device) and that
folder is then available on all connected devices. I'm not an Android user
(sorry,) but on my Windows smartphones, I can only create folders for IMAP
and Exchange accounts, not POP. On my PC, I can create local folders for
POP accounts, but changes I make (moving email from one folder to another)
only exist on the PC, not the email server or on the mobile. Folders I
create on my PC for IMAP accounts automagically appear on my mobile and vice
versa, and email I move from one folder to another gets moved on the server
itself, and on all connected devices. So an email I move from my Inbox to
my "Archive" folder on the device, gets moved on the PC as well, so I only
have to deal with an email once- if I read it on the device, it's marked
read on the PC. If I delete it from the device, it's deleted from the PC,
etc.
My guess is that your problem isn't a limitation of the smartphone or its
software, but rather a limitation of your email server itself- POP was
created back when there were no smartphones, and most people had only one
PC. IMAP is generally considered a better solution for accessing email from
multiple devices/computers.

Well, that gives me something to think about! Thanks.

On my HTC HD2 with WinMo, Inbox/Menu/Tools/Manage Folders. Tap on the
account name brings up "To create or modify folders, tap and hold a
folder" dialog.
Can't figure it out in K9 or Android's Email feature?

That's right...I can't figure it out with K9 or Android HTC Email.

Me neither! Only answer I've found so far is to go WiMo or BlackBerry!

Looks like the only way to create a folder is to do it using something else
to do it. Like a desktop client.

If it is a POP account that probably won't help; POP itself doesn't do
folders. For POP any folders are local to and maintained by the email
client, so the email client itself on the machine where you want the
folders has to create them somehow. With IMAP the folders are on the
server and are part of the protocol, so you can create them from any
client of the same account.

May I make a suggestion? Why don't you set up a gmail or Yahoo! mail
account and folders for it as suggested by the previous poster. If you
are worried about having to change your POP email address, you can
simply forward all your POP email to the new Yahoo! or gmail address.

Interesting- I didn't know that, thanks. Honestly I haven't used POP in
years, going back to my WM2003 Dell Axim, maybe. I'll have to try it
again one o' these days...

I have no choice, my ISP provides POP2 only and since their system
works and has for several years I can't get excited about making any
changes.

With POP do you really have a reason to not use an IMAP provider?
gmail works, or any number of other services.

Harry-
If you're using more than one email address, and if you access K9's Unified
Inbox, you will not see folders. However, if you press your Android's Menu
button and choose Accounts, you will then see a list of your various email
accounts. Choose the email account you want to inspect, press the Menu
button again, and one of the menu choices will be Folder List. Inbox,
Drafts, Sent, and Trash folders are already there waiting for you.
