On 1/2/2012 I ported a number from Verizon (on the same phone we used
on Verizon) to Page Plus. It all worked. We made the change for this
phone, my wife's, because she uses about 115 minutes a month.
Now if you call the number, you get "welcome to verizon wireless". If
you try to call from the phone, you are informed that the service is
not available.
Page Plus says it's a Verizon problem. Verizon says contact Page Plus.
And calling Page Plus results in being on hold 10-15 minutes and then
getting disconnected, until you finally get through

I think you just found out WHY Verizon Wireless is a successful company!
Page Plus clearly doesn't know its *** from a hole in the ground.
It's cheap because people won't pay high prices for poor or non-existent
service.

It turns out, that in spite of their earlier denials, it's Verizon
that screwed things up. So the people who don't know their *** frtom a
hole in the ground that did nothing wrong, and your "success" Verizon
at fault.
Annything that you feel you can pontificate on from complete
ignorance?
For the difference in cost (PP $45 a year vs Verizon $450 per year),
you'd expect Verizon to be flawless, but they caused the problem in
thsi instance. It was a network problem, and guess who owns the
network Page Plus sells - Verizon.

They must have released the number to Page Plus because it all worked
from Jan 2 till recently. My guess is that they tried to take it back.
Page Plus says that I'm not the only one and all involve numbers
recently ported from Verzion.

Maybe try dialing *22890 SEND to reprogram the phone for P+

Easy there boy, you're challenging her core values, fundamental
self-concept, and deep-seated sense of self-worth.
After all if it weren't for tourists and people like Janet, who would be
left to pay full price so the rest of us could continue to skate by for
30 cents on the dollar?

Well, now you know why Page Plus is cheaper.
You generally get what you pay for!!!!!! And, of course, you don't get
what you don't pay for!

For many people, a cell phone that can make and receive calls is all
that is needed. For other people, a cell phone needs to be a pocket
sized entertainment center.

I'm one of those. My Android phone is the best toy I have ever owned and
it also makes and receives phone calls.
My phone keeps my shopping lists, my notes to myself, my calender, helps
me with finding places, answers questions, translates, and entertains me
when I'm waiting at the doctor's office. It's a "dream come true" for
this aging ADHD grandma :-)

Nah. They offer the same "cellphone service" (as VZ prepaid); better price;
and ??? "customer service"

Page Plus being cheaper didn't cause the problem. It turned out to be
a Verizon problem.

The phone in question is my wife's. Her usage is minimal and no need
for data. At Verizon, the cost of the lowest price plan is $40 a month
plus texts at 20 cents each. For what she uses, I can get the same
usage, with the Verizon prepaid network, for about $40 a year.
There are people whose needs require plans like Verizon's. She's not
one of them.

You didn't pay them! You even told them that you won't pay them ever
again. You are no longer a VZW customer!
Think about it!
They will get it straightened out eventually but, since you are no
longer a customer, they will fix things at THEIR convenience!

Cell phone service has changed and includes data. so, I have to

10 bucks a month is the cheapest a line costs on VZW

Well that's some real circular logic. If he'd still been a VZW

Yup; pretty sure you can't get a solo, stand-alone cell number on VZW for
$10.
My lightly-used PP cell service, with light data as needed, is costing me
under $10.
I was a VZW customer for many, many years. No longer. My exact same (from
my perception) service with VZW with the same phone and same number cost me
4/5/6/7/8-times more...

Not according to verizon, unless you are adding a line to a family
plan. Otherwise it's substantially more. And that's still more the $40
a year.

No, I would have gotten the same denial, just paid a lot more for
it. Your logic is stunningly bad.
Verizon screws up something they were supposed to do and it's my fault
for leaving them.
