More reasons(s
1. paying for people to be rude to you
2. crammed into a space too small for comfort
3. late
4. lost luggage
I stopped flying long before 9/11, if I can't drive, I don't need to be
there.

I can't say I care if the terrorists win or lose as long as I'm not one
of the casualties! Selfish of me but that's the way it is.
When the rules don't allow me to have even a pen knife or a pocket
screwdriver I feel that I'm at a severe disadvantage! The terrorists
somehow manage to make shoes out of "plastique", knives out of glass,
and God knows what else.
The last time I visited an airport I was able to recover the combination
of the lock on the boarding gate just by watching the pilot open the
door. Security was a joke!
I think it was just yesterday that I read in the paper that one of the
Lockerbie terrorists had been given a "compassionate release" because
his mother was dying or some such thing! The world is going to hell in
a handbasket!
It has been more than ten years since I've set foot in an aircraft.
I won't fly again without urgent necessity!

I keep waiting for Samuel L. Jackson to post saying "I'm tired of the
godamn cell phones and these godamn planes."

Your mileage may vary. And apparently does.
I find 2 to be true, but I make do, and I still (in general) enjoy
flying.

For years, many, MANY other countries have had MUCH tighter airport
security than the U.S. But I will concede that the TSA has made some
stupid moves in the post-9/11 era.

That one doesn't bother me.
I see it as a one-time exploitation of the system's and people's
assumption that any hijacker want's to live through the
experience.
Seems like that had a shelf life of about 45 minutes bc once the
people on the plane bound for the Pentagon caught on via cell
phone, it was all over for the hijack attempt.
There may well be subsequent attempts to use commercial aircraft
as missiles, but I don't see how they could involve conscious
passengers.
I can see a few scenarios that do not involve conscious
passengers... but I can also seem myself getting hit by a truck
driving to work....

To me, 9/11 was a one-shot deal predicated on people's and the
system's assumption that hijackers want to survive the endeavor.
It had a life of less than 45 minutes as the passengers on the
plane headed for the Pentagon found out what was up.
Until somebody figures out how to disable all a plane's
passengers, I don't seen anything like it happening again.

Today, you don't even get to carry a pen knife on board! The bad guys
seem to have no problem wearing shoes made of "plastique", knives made
of glass, etc, etc.
In the unlikely event that I need to travel somewhere, I'll take the
train, bus, or drive my own car.
