This is probably archived in so deep I can't find it anywhere, so I'll ask:
How do I get my VZW Motorola Q9m Windows Mobile 6 handset to install
suitable drivers for recently acquired Spectec WDS-822 802.11b mini-SDIO
wi-fi card to function in it?
but no inkling (nor any guidance) which to use -- nor how to use it -- to
get the Q9m drivers properly installed. Do I ...
(i) unpack the RAR archive on a PC, and then transfer the contents to the
phone via an intermediary mini-SD flash memory card?
(ii) just copy the CAB file over to the Q9m via mini-SD flash memory card?
(iii) expand (extract) the CAB file's contents to mini-SD flash card on a
PC, and then copy that stuff over to the phone?
(iv) other? (and: to *where* in the phone's file system?)
All conceivable explicit, step-by-step directions (or pointers to such) for
achieving this are welcomed! (I'd use the install routine of the drivers CD
that comes packed with the SDW-822 card if only it included Q9m drivers ...
but it doesn't :-{ .)
Many TIA! And cheers, -- tlvp

Get the .cab file on the device any way you like (SD card, copy with
Activesync, whatever) and execute the .cab on the device in File Manager
by selecting it. .cab files are to WinMo what .msi files are to Windows
PCs: a program installer. Don't unpack the .cab first, and when it asks,
install to main memory, not the SD card, because presumably that SD won't
be there when you remove it to insert the WLAN card.

OK, done: have put .CAB on Mini-SD card, slipped that into phone, and
copied .CAB off Mini-SD card into \ folder of the phone's file system.

I can *select* that .CAB file in the phone's File Manager (FM), but how do
I convince the FM I want to "execute" it? FM seems only to offer to let me
move it, copy it, delete it, or learn its Properties. What am I
missing/misreading/misunderstanding?
Well, let me make myself plainer. I start the FM; I navigate to the \
folder from the My Documents folder; there, using the up/down options of
the U/D/L/R joystick keys, I navigate to the .CAB file so it's highlighted;
and then the right soft-key for options only lets me choose from among the
options I've already described (move, copy, delete, properties). So: ??? .

I can just remove the SD card, having copied the .CAB to the phone's \
folder, and then the wrong option presumably won't ever appear :-) ... or?
After the .CAB is successfully "execute"d, presumably, the SDW-822, once
inserted in the Q9m SDIO slot, will immediately be recognized, hailed,
welcomed, patted on the back, and encouraged to get to work? If it's not
that straight-forward, what must I do to get it started looking for my AP's
SSID, authenticating, and getting itself assigned a local IP address?
Thanks, Todd, for your support. And cheers, -- tlvp

So: ??? .
Try the enter or select (the key in the center of the cursor keys) buttons.

or?
Correct.

Generally some soft of config utility will install with the driver, and
will be in the Programs or Settings folder.

I have a Sylvania 7" Smartbook (netbook) that runs Windows Embedded
Compact 7. (A Windows Mobile operating system.) To run a cab setup
file I just double click it (mouse or touchpad) in the file manager.
Anyway to double tap it on your phone? Just a guess...

Ah, the joystick "home" key (analogous to the 5-key in a numeric keypad).
How silly of me to have overlooked that now obvious possibility :-) .

Good.

OK, will be on the look-out for that, thanks.

This Q9m has neither mouse, nor touchpad, nor even touch-sensitive screen,
whence my confusion. But I think Todd's now got me pointed in the right
direction.
Other thing I miss is the "tool-tips" I normally expect to see when
"hovering" over something clickable -- there's no "hovering" on the Q9m,
any more than there is on, say, a Blackberry Playbook.
But, yes, apparently, "tap", or "double-tap", is the key intention here.
Thanks for reinforcing that thought. And cheers, -- tlvp
