The wireline company Verizon has no footprint at all where I live (the
wireline provider here is Fairpoint), so so far as I'm concerned, it is
off-topic.

Using your logic based on geography, I have no "footprint" for the
complaints about VZ cellular problems that occur outside my usage area.
That makes them OT for me. So don't post about anything that's happening
outside my immediate area. In fact, nobody should post anything unless it's
a nationwide VZ issue. :-P

While I do use a VZ cell phone, I kept my VZ copper landline when I got FIOS
Internet and video last month (a "mixed media" install) so I do have an
interest in the strike topic. But my news provider only carries the two
newsgroups for VZ cellular and online services. Both have strike threads
running now so unless there is an alt.landline-phones.verizon lurking
somewhere out there that my carrier is willing to pick up, these are the two
groups I am going to use to read and post on the strike.

I think their prices are a bit high, but I have no real complaints
about the service.

I switched back to VZW almost two years ago when the AT&T service
deteriorated to the point of unusability where I need it most - not
being able to call 911 was the last straw there. (Best guess on that
is that a tower died and AT&T decided to not repair it as service was
unaffected only two miles in any direction.)

Same here. All of a sudden AT&T had NO signal at my
home, where the bill is paid from, yet while I drove down
the street, under a mile, and I came to the AT&T store
I got signal, then 10 feet after..nothing. I tried it after the
store closed, and no signal at all 1 ft away from their door knob.

AT&T told me they were "..moving towers.." and no where in
the contract do they insure signal. Even though, for 6+ years
the signal was great, real strong. They told me "..sorry..".

My lawyer contacted AT&T people and AT&T "..will let me out.."
of my just renewed contract. I went to Verizon. Super..

It's like my 'UNLIMITED" service I have with VWS. Un-Limited
means just that. Unless they can re-wire said word. My GPS
has "..unlimited.." "..lifetime.." upgrades that, IMH/LO, means
that as long as one of us are alive (me or the company) I win.

Yet with all this crap going on, my contact at Verizon has not
returned my calls about my recent bill. I'm not worried.

That's common, the stores have femtocells. Verizon does it too.

No lawyer needed here, I just pointed them to my year-long list
escalating complaints and then the final straw.

I think they define it as the life of the specific unit...
