But modifying the registry on your computer to get rid of crapware
doesn't void the warranty like rooting your phone.

Hmm ... how about overwriting each of them with a short text file, perhaps
with the content, "Get thee behind me, Satan!", eh? Perhaps if the file
that's expected is present, in name anyway, the system will be satisfied
enough not to regenerate it more fully, and you'll have saved some space.

Perhaps he wants to keep books and videos OUT of his phone.
