It might be the capslock police calling.

YOU MIGHT JUST ANSWER THE CALLS AND ASK WHO'S CALLING.

Is everyone's CAPS lock stuck, or is it just me? ;-)

Seriously, though, if you think there's a magic way to get a private
number to display on your phone, that would kind of defeat the purpose of
the "private" feature.

I had a similar problem with late night calls a few years ago. When I
answered I heard the beep of a fax machine. One night (mostly out of
boardom) I forwarded my cell to my home phone and received the fax on my
PC. It was a junk fax with a number to call at the bottom to be removed
from their call list. I called it, and they stopped within a few days.

Who's there when you answer? Is it human, machine or silence?

Isn't there an option to not allow phone calls to come in if they are
blocking their ID? You have to dial with some *6something number to unblock
your ID to allow a phone call to come through. SO if anyone calls you with
a blocked ID it will tell them to use the number to unblock the ID and then
call. It won't block everyone completely, but it will force them to give up
their identity.

That idea would block my local library form letting me know a book is ready
to be picked up. I wish they had an option to block a specific tel number
from ringing my phone. There are some people who never seem to learn that
they've reached a wrong number repeatedly.

Is that an automate call? If there is a real person on the other line, then
it will just tell them to dial a code to allow their number to be seen.
Most people just dial it that way. Nobody is necessarily blocked, they can
call, but have to release their number to caller ID to do it.
