Actually its very easy to flash the firmware of most phones, and usually
falls to the simple matter of aquiring the correct cables. Its simple
enough that my mother could probably do it. Back before Verizon instituted
the six month rule, I flashed several pre-paid phones and used them on
standard post-paid accounts, and did a pile more for friends.
But even with flashed firmware, Verizon will know its a pre-paid phone
simply from the ESN. And now they have that six month rule. So yeah, its
not so much a bargain to buy that pre-paid phone any more.
