I guess that it's useful in a European or Asian country that has both
GSM 900/1800 and CDMA 800, for someone that has service with two
different carriers.

Pretty worthless in the U.S. It won't work on the U.S. GSM networks, and
you probably can't activate it on prepaid on a CDMA carrier.
