Default Strange calls from Verizon?

My cell phone recently (last few weeks) started ringing about 4 times a
day (at all hours of the day and night). The number that calls me is
"unavailable" on caller id. I hear a female voice say "Welcome to the
message management system." I can't reach an operator or anything else
from here.
I called Verizon and the lady in tech support said she didn't know what
was going on and didn't think it was Verizon calling. She offered some
pretty lame solutions (like blocking all incoming calls). One of them
was to reboot my phone, which i tried by taking out the battery when it
was powered on and waiting a few minutes before plugging it back in.
After searching on this forum I see that this message is probably from
some kind of Verizon messaging service. I can't figure out why it
would be calling me or who to talk to to get it to stop. Please let me
know if you have any ideas to help. Thanks,
Jon

Don't know about that but I have had some strange calls from voicemail
systems. The first time it happened I thought it was my imagination. I
called a business and ended up in voicemail hell so I hung up. A few
seconds later the phone rang with no CID info and I was back in the same
(I assume) voicemail system.

Don't know where you EVER got that idiot idea that it must be verizon...
Hello!?!??! Are you daft!?!?!??! That's most likely a friggen telemarketer
call!!!!!!

If you ever see a "restricted" or "unavailable" on the caller id, do NOT
answer it!!!!!!
Verizon leaves it on.. Telemarketers (and some idiots) turn it off so you
can't see who's calling....
NEVER EVER call back, that negates any of the do not call laws since you are
calling them, and have what is legally called "a business" relationship

You are singularly out of luck: Google only reports your query!!! Dunno
what is going on, but I recommend you check your billing with Verizon to
make sure you have not been illegally subscribed to a cell phone charge
rip-off service; you know, like the 1-900 calling thefts.

I see another fan of subtle punctuation.

My new VX8300 distinguishes (in the Phone Settings) amongst "Caller ID", "No
Caller ID", and "Restricted Calls". What, if anything is the difference
between "No Caller ID" and "Restricted Calls"? Enquiring minds want to know!

No CID is just that, no CID info, usually though an error during CID
transmission or the calling system is not CID capable. Restricted CID
has a restricted flag set in the data stream. I have my landline set
to reject restricted CIDs, but no CID still comes through.

Any chance you were checking voicemail and took another call? I have done
this and once finished with the call, after a few minutes, the voice mail
calls me back...
