I have a Verizon cell plan with 700mins./mth. but, they are counting
minutes that, they told me, I would not be charged for. For the
night, they said any call that is between 9pm-5am, would not be
charged to the 700mins. I get each month. I was on the cell phone
with my fiance for 6hrs. last night and, now, I am wondering if I can
even talk to her at all, because of this garbage.
YOu shouldn't be charged with that. unless ure on basic plan. I would go
look up your plan and see which package ure on, but I'm pretty sure that u
shouldn't get charged. I would call the customer service and have them "
audit " your verizon bills for the past six months. that's what I do, and
many time I've had them remited my money back to me.

Aare you sure you want to marry a high-maintenance babe that needs six hours
of phone time per night? Hell, that's about two months of "meaningful
communication" where I come from;-)

If you want to know what bucket it came from just call #646 a few hours
after you make a call.
I have that kind of plan which I have had for years.
It , in my case, is billed as special and if I check
my minutes before the end of month it is frightening.
It is calculated at the end of my month. Just be sure
about when it starts and ends. Mine is an old plan
which starts at 8:00 PM and ends Monday at 6:00 AM.
The newer ones end at Sunday midnight and start
at 9:00 PM. Luck P.S. It did have holidays which
it no longer does.

I like talking on the phone with her so, it doesn't bother me, in the
least.
One thing I've learned is that the free nights and weekend calls are free
when the call begins after 9:01pm. If you begin a call at some time before
9:00 or 9:01, whenever the start of the free period begins, the call counts
as if it happened entirely outside of the free period. For example, the
last time I looked into this matter, if I began a call at 08:55 pm talked
for 30 minutes those 30 minutes were counted against my monthly total. Had
I begun a call at 08:55, talked for 5 minutes, and then called back for an
addtional 25 minutes only the 5 minutes would count against my total. The
25 minute call that began after the free period started were free to me. On
my bill it shows the minutes that count against my plan total and the free
minutes. I work nights so very few of my minutes count against my monthy
limit.

On my 700 minute/mo family plan off peak minutes are counted but I am not
charged for them.
2. The website gives a nice breakdown of usage. I prefer it.

I believe Verizon changed their policy a while ago, and such calls are
now divided between the two rate periods.

Or get her a Verizon Wireless cell phone so the calls are "IN calling" no
matter when you make them!
I called Verizon to clarify the rule about calling just before 9:00pm. I was
told if you place the call just before 9:00pm, all the time after 9:00pm on
the same call would also be considered daytime, and it will count against
your allowed minutes. Charles Ranheim

Sounds confusing. I have placed numerous calls that span 9PM and each
time the billing was accurately split.

I spoke to VZW yesterday on a different matter but asked that same
question. My answer was the call time is split between on and off peak.

Depends on the area, and whether it's actual verizon or one of their
extended network/roaming partners.. Most have spanned calls, but a few
don't.. Really sucks when your home area spans, but you travel for work and
go somewhere that doesn't
Since you didn't say where you were when you made the call, can't really
say... (doesn't matter where your home is, or what verizon at 611 tells you,
depends on where you actually are when you make the call.).

I called Verizon again last night for a "clarification". The person I spoke
with first took the side saying the time would be split before and after
9:00pm. I then told her I was told twice that same day, the time would not
be split. The total rate would be based on the actual call START time only.
This is the first time I have been unable to get a straight answer from
Verizon. Perhaps, as the previous post indicated, it makes a difference
where you live, or where you make the call from. The last person I spoke
with said she will get back to me with the final correct answer. I don't
mean to make a big deal out of this, but there are several times when I
would like to start making a long call a few minutes before 9:00pm, as long
as it goes to the night rate after 9:00pm. Charles Ranheim

Other than the minor inconvenience, is it not possible to begin the
call, then after 9PM, hang up and call back to make sure you are in
the night period for the remainder of the conversation? You can also
find out for certain how it works where you are by starting a five
minute call a couple of minutes before 9PM one week night and then
look on your call detail to see if/how it got split. No sense
listening to conflicting answers from CSRs.

I do a lot of travelling, and just to be sure, I hang up and call right back
at 9:02.... Just a problem with some (very few places don't support call
spanning, but it only takes one!) So no matter where I am, I'm always
assured to be on the free nights... Better safe than sorry!

"I received the following answer via email from Verizon about how the time
used is calculated when placing a call before 9:00pm and continuing into the
normal nighttime rate. This was their official answer:
The type of call you are referring to is called a Span Rate call. A Span
Rate call is a call that originates in one rate period and continues into
another rate period.
Rate periods are defined as follows:
Peak Hours (Days): 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday through Friday
Off-Peak (Nighttime and Weekend) Hours: Nights: Monday - Friday, 9:01 p.m.
to 5:59 a.m. Weekends: 12:01 a.m., Saturday, to 11:59 p.m., Sunday.
For example, a call that starts during Peak hours and ends during Off-Peak
hours is a Span Rate call. A call placed on a weeknight at 8:58 p.m.,
lasting five minutes, will be calculated as three minutes Peak and two
minutes Off-Peak.
I apologize for the inconvenience but the only place I am aware that this
information is specifically documented is on your actual service agreement."
