Default Use remaining minutes for internet access

I have Verizon XV6700 (Windows Mobile 5) with basic plan(450 minutes),
but I only use 30 minutes/month at the most. So I was wondering if
there is any way to use the remaining minutes for internet access.
Since my phone is wi-fi capable, I can usually browse the internet
through wi-fi connection, but it is inconvenient not to be able to do
that if wi-fi is not available. I know if I pay for Data plan I can
do so anywhere, but I feel such a waste not to use the remaining
munites for something useful. I thought I heard from somewhere that
you can use remaining minutes for internet access, but I am not sure
if that is really possible. Please help me.

I am a customer with hopke.net. http://hopke.net/proxy/proxyhome.php

They provide internet access for $1 per month. It's 1/5 the cost of the
Verizon web access. The time I spend on the web counts against my minutes,
but my use is mostly during my free nights and weekends.

I just renewed my Hopke account after being a satisfied customer for 1 year.

By the way, Hopke only works with WAP 2.0 devices. I use an LG VX6100. I'm
not familiar with your phone model.

XV6700 is a smartphone.

I am using Internet Explore mobile. Can I still use Hopke's service?
Sorry I am not too familiar with WAP 2.0 thing.

Or on here as well.

I once called CS. When talk about the price per test msg was going up.
I wanted to get out of contract. When I called, the first thing out was that
they record there calls for QA And training so this was being recorded on my
end as well. I got out of contract without the ETF.

About 3 weeks later I got my final bill. 175.00 for the ETF. I called
Verizon and was told I had to pay it. I took my micro recorder to the local
office ask for the mgr, played it and he called and had it removed.

Record everything. It's the only way to deal with sleaze. If you go to
the VZW store, take a "friend", too....one who can TESTIFY as to exactly
what was said, and what is on your recording, such as identifying the
employee who said it. That's very important if it goes too far.

Once they find out you have a recording and witness to the lie...it never
goes any further.

This isn't just at VZW, or about VZW. Do this with every encounter you
have with, ESPECIALLY corporate, employees. Just let a friend "hang
around" while you talk to them. You're NOT required, in most states, to
reveal your recording equipment if ONLY ONE of the two parties knows
about it. You are no longer required to beep your phone when recording a
phone conversation for this reason.

"Yes, your Immenseness", your witness says to the judge or arbitrator,
"he (pointing to Slick Earl, the VZW guy) said it exactly as it is on
that recording I made during his conversation with (put your name here)."

Denials deleted....(c;

Don't forget to record every word said at any corporation arbitration,
either....just for your own amusement. In a "proceding" like that, I
bring the biggest, most imposing microphone in my collection to plug into
the recorder. The big, chrome microphone plugs into the Uher reel-to-
reel news reporter's tape machine, the same one used by Richard Nixon,
except without all the gaps. Notice how they look at the big mic and
watch the big 5" reels going around the whole time they're telling the
truth, instead of the perjury they were told to say by the company
lawyers. The psychology is the same as the cops use in an interrogation
room on the suspects....imposing recording devices directly in front of
the interrogatee....(c;

This link seems to indicate the VX6700 uses WAP 2.0.

To be more certain, you might scan your owner's manual to confirm. You can
email Hopke

....however, you should check the laws of the state you're in, and probably
the laws where the call-center is located, if you can. I'm not saying this
isn't good advice (it is, in fact, very good advice), but make sure you're
not breaking the law, or at the very least, if your dispute gets to court,
your recording will be worthless.

This Is why I said that it was being recorded. To just be on the safe side.
I figured if they were to object to it then I would have said the same to
them while they were recording on there end.

In California, It's lawful to record a phone call. I read that over 80% of
companies do it. SBC About a year ago turned off my mothers phone at her
house by mistake. She has a medic alert on her phone. I called to find out
what happen after I could not contact her. The C/S agent called me a few
choice words and two days later I got a call from her mgr saying SBC Was
sorry that I was treated in such a way. When I asked how they found out, she
advised me they screen there tapes of in and out going calls. I got about 6
months free service after they wanted to make it right. This was all over a
disconnected phone line that a tech disconnected by mistake in the box that
serves about 60 places in her park.

The corporations are the ones who changed the recording laws, in
cooperation with their paid politicians, of course. You can bet your ass
that every time you call a corporation, anywhere, they are recording every
syllable for the same reason I do.

Not quite sure how Wireless Accees Protocol (WAP) 2.0 ties in with Vzw's
Mobile Web 2.0, but per this thread on HowardForums I jumped in on (
http://www.howardforums.com/showthre...16&page=2&pp=1 ), the
PDA phones such as the 6700 (that OP and I both have), will NOT work
with Mobile Web 2.0, and thus will not use "surplus" talk time minutes.

To do that, one has to stick with non-PDA phones such as the EnV or
Samsung 740 to access the web via Mobile Web 2.0 (= WAP 2.0?). I about
went that way, but decided to see how a 6700 from eBay for under $200
would work out. Turns out the phone receptivity is so poor in my house,
that I cannot maintain a call connection, so now it is a nice Pocket PC
with wifi only (I keep the phone radio turned off, but check every once
in a while in case Vzw just happpens to boost their siganls near us
somehow... ;-)

BTW, when I activated the phone for all of 15 minutes by calling Vzw
support (could not get the online activation to work), they forced me to
choose between a $45 "unlimited" (yeah, right) data plan, or 1.5
cents/per KiloByte pay-as-you-go plan. I went with the 1.5c/KB plan,
then *thought* I had that taken off when I went back to my old Nokia
after finding out how poor the reception was - had to get after them
when it showed up on my bill for that month for my MobWeb 2.0 usage
after that phone ping-pong. Guess I should have tried the
self-activation some more on their website...
