Default Verizon cell via internet

I have a problem with Verizon cell service, but only when I am at home.
I have a very strong signal 24x7, yet incoming calls often do not
complete. They go straight to voicemail.

After many years of experience and four different handset designs, I
believe that my issue is an overloaded tower. I live near I-880 and so
I am probably served by one of the towers that line that freeway. I can
see one right at "my" freeway exit. I know that a lot of drivers on "my"
freeway talk on their cell phones and crash into each other.

I am going to ask Verizon if I can have a device that routes cell phone
traffic through my broadband internet service provider. I get very good
service from Comcast, and I would like to take advantage of that. I am
thinking of a tiny cell phone "tower" with an ethernet port on it, which
I could park on a bookshelf at home.

Has anyone here attempted this? I am hoping that I can complain in such
a way that Verizon will subsidize the cost of the required equipment.
What phone number should I call, and what words should I use?

Have? No. However, they'll SELL you one.

With Verizon, the name of the gadget I need seems to be "network
extender." I found this product link:
http://www.amazon.com/Verizon-Wirele...2941638&sr=1-5
..

I would still like to know if I can beg one of these from Verizon. I
would also like to know if this is a good idea or not.

Sounds like you're talking about a femtocel. I'm sure that Verizon
will sell you one.
