Default Verizon excessive bandwidth charges

I have a family share plan, I pay just under $100/month for. I just
renewed, and apparently the infrared port on my Treo is dead. As a
result, they weren't able to transfer the phone book in the Verizon
store. They said I could use my account and it was pretty easy and left
it up to me. Well after several hours of Verizon Tech Support and a few
rounds of email with them, I gave up, and spent a few hours one night
manually entering the 150 or so entries. I just got my latest bill, and
the fees for bandwidth charges and application fees for all those
applications and bandwidth attempts added up to $168, on top of my
regular bill amount. I am shocked they want me to pay this, given they
charge $20 for a phone book transfer in the store. I was so mad I hung
up to avoid cussing in this girl's ear.

What "applications and bandwidth attempts"? You said you entered the numbers
manually?

Agreed. Actually, I just bought a Treo and had my numbers transferred from
my LG VX8300 (via cable) in the store. I have almost 400 contacts. They were
brought across just fine. Many with three or four numbers and email
addresses attached to the contact.

As for doing it free online... if you are referring to Backup Assistant,
that is not available with PDA devices. Also, Get It Now is not available.
Instead you use Active Sync (software provided free in the box) to save your
contacts to your own personal PC.

It cost 20 dollars fot an application that'd support both phones, the
rest was bandwidth charges. The Treo wasn't supported on the free with
my account backup plan, I wound up having to try wireless sync I believe?

2 verizon stores in San Diego told me it was done via infrared on the
600 and my infrared was dead. Online is only free if it supports your
phone, the free online deal that comes with my acct didn't support my
Treo 600.
