Verizon Reseller, Page Plus, tweaks "Talk n Text 1200" plan
Cribbed from an email that I just received from "Kitty Wireless", a dealer
for PagePlus:
*******************
"Effective today, Talk n Text 1200 $29.95/mo changes as follows:
a) 1200 Minutes per month will stay the same (but see below!)
b) 2000 Messages per month will change to 3000 Messages per month
c) 100mb of Data per month will stay the same (but see below!)
Customers who are currently on a Talk n Text 1200 plan will get the new
allocation of Text Messages upon their next cycle renewal. There is no
possible way to modify a plan in progress.
For this plan only, Talk n Text 1200, the following overage rates will apply
from this point forward (Overage Rates for Power Texting and Unlimited Talk
n Text will remain unchanged at their old rates):
d) The 15 Cent per Megabyte over 100mb is now 10 Cents per Megabyte!!
e) The 15 Cent per Text Message over 3000 is now 5 Cents per Text Message!!
(The MMS overage rate remains at 10 cents per MMS Message)
f) The 10 Cent per Minute over 1200 is now 5 Cents per Minute !!"

Just checked he PagePlus website and it doesn't show these rates. Maybe
you've been shucked...or you're a scammer/spammer?

Oh yea of little faith! Bet you a dollar...
Seriously, these be true facts. I've been following the thread on the
subject in the Kittywireless forum about this for, literally, months. Kitty
is just ahead of the curve -- ahead of PP updating its website, in fact
(which site is often not current. It took some time for the last couple of
revisions to actually make it to the PP site. They just added to their
phone offerings and the dealers announced same several days before the PP
site reflected the new offerings).
I'm no spammer/scammer; merely a happy customer who has been using PP for
about 1 1/2 years, and who finally ported his long-standing number from VZW
to PP in May. Review, if you wish, the postings yourself here:

Yeah, I saw those changes. I need to find a way to text more and talk more.

You did an =excellent= job of it!
I'm awaiting the next announcement or two. I'm a low-volume user -- I could
never use up all the minutes and texts that the TnT 1200 Plan provides -- so
I'm curious to see if they come up with something that is more data-heavy
but less talk/text heavy for a similar price point. Doubtful, but you never
know...

I'm pretty sure that Verizon is not anxious to enable MVNOs to offer
large data plans.
But for someone looking at the AT&T $15/200MB data plan adder to a voice
plan, the Pageplus TnT 1200 is about $35 less per month, for a lot more
peak minutes (but no off-peak), even when you add the $10 to bring the
data on TnT from 100MB to 200MB.

No disagreement at all. I'm not talking "large data plans." But maybe a
bit more data in trade for less minutes and less text. For example, I'd
like to see half the minutes, half the text and twice the data as TnT1200
for the same price. With 200MB of data I could do some damage! I just
don't want to pay $40/mo. for the privilege: that's more than twice what
I'm paying now. As we've discussed, I've never yet even dipped my toes into
TnT1200-land...

I gave a Toastmasters speech today on Pageplus, Sonic, and becoming AT&T
Free. I think I should get a commission for the new customers going to
Pageplus!
One guy said AT&T was forcing him to upgrade his phone, from a very old
Cingular 2G-only phone, and that he originally was going to do it
because he had such a great plan, $40 for 900 peak minutes. He is about
to become a Pageplus TnT 1200 customer. A Verizon customer on unlimited
data was also planning to change because he uses so little data.

Due to the low margins on prepaid, even Page Plus dealers don't get a
commission for signing up new customers!
The money in prepaid is made by selling equipment, accessories and
airtime cards, or by charging "activation fees" when activating phones.

They made the changes on their web site, at least in some places, missed
others.
<http://www.pagepluscellular.com/Plans.aspx> is still wrong.
<http://www.pagepluscellular.com/Plans/Talk%20n%20Text%201200.aspx> is
correct.
Glad I saw your e-mail yesterday before my Toastmasters speech. I gave
out handouts that were a subset of my "Smart Phones, Dumb Prices"
presentation, and I was able to make the necessary changes.
Half of the speech was on Pageplus, half was on Sonic.net, with the
sub-theme of becoming AT&T-Free. The person who evaluated my speech
really liked it, stating that he always knew AT&T as "American Thugs and
Thieves."
I'm trying to think of a good analogy for the people that use
sufficiently small amounts of data that TnT 1200 would be ideal for
them, but that are so addicted to the subsidized handsets that they
would never leave Verizon or AT&T. It's amazing to me that they would
pay an extra $40 or so per month for 24 months to avoid spending $200
all at once. But some people are bad at math and lease cars too.
