Verizon/Sprint iPhone 5 Won't Do Simultaneous Voice and Data onLTE/3G
Verizon/Sprint iPhone 5 Won't Do Simultaneous Voice and Data onLTE/3G. Discuss Verizon/Sprint iPhone 5 Won't Do Simultaneous Voice and Data onLTE/3G, on Wireless Forums.
Verizon/Sprint iPhone 5 Won't Do Simultaneous Voice and Data onLTE/3G
Very odd. For simultaneous voice and data the iPhone 5 drops back to 3G
for both voice and data and Verizon and Sprint can't do simultaneous 3G
data and CDMA voice (this drawback was used endlessly in AT&T advertising).
With LTE, Verizon and Sprint no longer have this limitation. At least on
most LTE phones. Apple chose to not implement simultaneous voice and LTE
data because it would require another antenna in the phone.

Yup. And in a year Apple will be able to come out with a "new, improved"
version that *can* implement it, so as to spur another round of sales :-) .

Not just implement it, invent it.
More likely that it spurs Verizon to speed up voice over LTE so there
would be no need for two radios to be on at the same time. It's coming,
but not for a couple of more years. It would also be more power
efficient than having both the LTE and the 3G radio on at the same time.
Meanwhile, I think most people would choose the far larger LTE network
of Verizon versus being able to voice and data at the same time on AT&T.
Or they would buy one of the LTE/3G phones on Verizon that supports
simultaneous voice and data.
This might be a blessing in disguise for Verizon. It gives them a
marketing angle to push Android and Windows 8 phones which are more
profitable because they aren't subsidized as heavily. It's pretty safe
to say that almost no one leaves Verizon and goes to AT&T if they've
ever experienced AT&T. But moving from the iPhone to an Android phone is
less of an issue than it was in the past, now that ICS is out and now
that nearly every needed app is available on both platforms, but iOS
still lacks some extremely useful apps that are available on Android.

Apple comes out with a new phone every year, and it sells in droves.

Yeah, I know I have done data and voice on my galaxy nexus using LTE.
Voice may have been over a different band.

Even if they have minor stuff.

Yep! IPhone 5 will sell well as usual. :P

Oh, I don't know, iOS isn't my cuppa, but lots of people like it, and
it's a trouble-free OS.
While the annual upgrades aren't much to shout about individually, keep
in mind that most people are on two-year contracts, so they are comparing
the new model with their current two-year old phone, not the one it
replaced. The 4S wasn't a significant upgrade compared to the 4, but was
a vast improvement over the 3GS the folks eligible for upgrades were using.
Similarly, the people who currently use the iPhone 4, not the 4S, are
eligible for an upgrade. The 5 seems like a reasonable upgrade to the 4.

That sounds good in theory, sure. However in my small sample size in the IT
department of 50 or so people, all the iphone users are upgrading yearly.

How are they managing that? Just paying full price for every other phone?

I have no idea... often times they NEED a new one due to the old one
being broken
