Default Verizon Wins BIG on 700 Mhz spectrum auction....

Found this story on CNN:

http://www.cnn.com/2008/TECH/03/20/a...ap/index.html?
iref=nextin

"Verizon Wireless, a joint venture between Verizon Communications Inc. and
British telecom giant Vodaphone Group, won nearly every license in the
consumer-friendly "C block."

The spectrum, which encompasses about a third of the spectrum at auction,
is subject to "open access" provisions pushed by FCC Chairman Kevin Martin,
meaning users of the network will be able to use whatever phones or
software they wish."

Oh, great! We'll be able to use our unhobbled Alltel phones on the hobbled
Verizon bandwidth!.....yeah, right.

Oh, sure.....sure we will....We'll use our own software on a company that
won't even allow you to rent unlimited internet bandwidth.

Of course- that's likely why they changed their rules recently- instead of
a 5GB cap followed by throtling bandwidth, it's now 5GB plus extra charges
for overages- as long as you're paying, they'll be happy to let you use any
data intensive app you'd like!

It's like AT&T's data plans. You can't tether a laptop/PDA/tablet to your
phone on the $20 "unlimited" MEdia plans, but you're allowed to on all pay
per kilobyte plans, or x#MB for $x plans.
