Default Verizon Wireless Lousy Phone, Lousy Support...What can I do?

My wife has a Motorola V60s phone with Verizon as her carrier. This
phone has never been any good. People she calls or who call her too
often can't understand her and vice versa, signal quality is marginal
where her friends phones, also on Verizon, have good signal, etc.
She's brought it into a Verizon corporate store more than once to have
it looked at. Each time she is told they fixed it and it behaves the
same lousy way it did before she brought it in. Unfortunately she is
not entitled to a $100 allowance on a new phone until October. She
doesn't want to wait that long, but she doesn't want to pay full
retail price for a new phone either, although she might be willing to
if she could find a good no frills phone that works well and which has
a charger mechanism and connector that is not as fragile as the one on
the V60s.

Is there a no frills phone by any manufacturer that works well on the
Verizon system. She doesn't want or need a camera, an MP3 player, GPS,
fancy ring tones, etc. She just wants to reliably and consistently
make and receive calls. Is there a phone that is universally
acknowledged to be a great no frills phone? What phone comes closest
to that description?

Also, in light of the fact that she has what is basically an unusable
phone can she terminate her contract without paying the $175 early
termination fee? Why should she have to pay for a service that she is
not getting due to a malfunctioning phone?

Any constructive advice will be appreciated.

Regarding the choice of handsets, I picked the Motorola V325i phone to
use on Verizon. It seems to be the best phone for completing a telephone
call. It has a crappy camera in it, but I don't care. I am among the
minority of cell phone users who believes that the purpose of a cell
phone is to complete a telephone call. I find the V325i to be acceptable.

I don't know what you should do about getting your money back. If I
were in your shoes, my strategy would be to start out polite (but firm)
at first. If that did not bring results, I would try to use the anger
tool. I suggest that you not resort to violence; the short term
pleasure would not compensate for the long term inconvenience.

I had (still have) a V60s phone. It was probably the BEST phone I have
had with Verizon since I signed on with them over 5 years ago.

Motorola doesn't make the V60s phone anymore. So if its giving you
problems, I suggest:

1) Go to a CORPORATE Verizon Wireless store to see if they can
exchange it for another one (probably not since its over a year old).

2) Buy one one eBay. Once you get it, activate it online. I did this
several years ago with a V120e and it worked great.

3) Get a new phone. I now have the V325 which is a pretty good phone.
Motorola has an even lower thrills phone called the W315 (it doesn't
have a camera).

So those are your choices, at least from my perspective.

If you're too far away from a New Every Two, get a phone on eBay.

Just a thought. I noticed on the http://www.verizonwireless.com web site it
states you can get a new phone *Before* your 2 years. I believe it says
every year at a reduced cost. Did not read further into it I am sure there
is a down side to it.

I would go to a company store, politely and firmly explain the situation
and see what they can work out such as getting a refurb replacement,
discount or getting the date moved on NE2.
