Re: Verizon Wireless nixing unlimited data for newbies
Bring da band on down, behind me, boyz n girlz..again...
What a last few days. I made the stupid move to get my FREE Droid X
out of 'WireFly'. For two days, up till about 5 hours ago, they just
couldn't do it. They kept telling me that it was VERIZON that was
not approving the order. Calls to Corp level Verizon cust service
(Hi Tina) and they walked me thru the problem. It was on Wireflys'
end. Here I am, hours away from the deadline. No hope?
Verizon just ended it, gave me the EXACT same deal (free phones,
etc..everything Wirefly offered) and my phones will be here Friday.
They OFFERED to do it. I knew that Verizon was not at fault,
that Wirefly was just lame. True, calls to Wirefly's corp office
tried to work it out, but they couldn't do it. "..Verizon's fault.."
they claimed. Verizon stepped up to the plate and ended this
madness. Same deal, same prices, in fact, a little less.
I'm happy big time. Customer service for Wirefly is overseas,
Verizon was in the USA. Makes ya wonder. I canceled all my order
with Wirefly, and this nightmare is over, and I'm in on the deal
on time. Verizon didn't have to do this. They value me as a
long time customer. I'm the 1st to yell and scream when people
**** up, and the 1st to sing praises for those who go beyond
the call of duty. Verizon did just that. Big time..
I notice that 3rd parties like Tiger and Wirefly go thru the
same 'company' to get the deals. Said company is called
Simplexity, in Reston, VA. I'll now only deal DIRECTLY with
Verizon. Cuts out the middle man ******** in one full sweep.
Again, thanks Verizon. Not only is coverage in my area
the best of all the carriers, but they ended my nightmare.
There was an interesting article on how Sprint is poised to gain "heavy"
data users. What was amusing is that Verizon stated that presently 95%
of their unlimited data plan customers use less than 2GB per month, but
an analyst stated that, despite the reality of actual data usage rates,
what will help Sprint is the fact that half of all smart phone users
consider themselves excessive users.

Simplexity = Wirefly. And I think their customer service is excellent.
They respond to posts on their Facebook page very quickly, even at odd
hours of the day and their English seems fine (thus I question the
non-US claim). I know that after I posted something on their page, I got
a call from someone who was definitely in the US and he resolved my
issue. Verizon's customer service may be in the US but that doesn't mean
it is better or that they usually are able to resolve issues quickly.
If you can get the same deal from Verizon then by all means go through
them. The Droid X is a year old phone so I am not surprised that they
were able to give it to you for free. Many (most) times, Wirefly is much
cheaper than Verizon.

The fact is that data usage is climbing by over 80% per year.

They told me they were in Manila (sp?), and the lang was not
a problem, it's just that they could do no more then the
US corp office could, and blamed it all on Verizon.

I do not rely on 'facebook' for customer service.

Solved mine in minutes, Wirefly couldn't in days...

Verizon offered the deal, normally they charge for the phones, which
is why I went to Wirefly 1st. IF they would of been able to do the
deal
I would of went with them. I'm not really mad at Wirefly, sorry if
it sounded that way, but it WAS VERY frustrating having to deal with
them for days. The Droid X is all I need for a phone, even more then
I need, but I had to get in before today to get the U/L data plan,
and Verizon bent over backwards to help me and got the job done.

Oh I always love the irony.
Saying their English is fine and then using then instead of than
Playing with the perception of the people is an art which bigger corporations really know and besides, customers usually don't think in data terms (with the exception of geeks). I hardly can imagine that this problem can be on your phone service provider's end too, as people can be easily dodged by ready made procedures. Unless you are a real expert. it becomes really difficult to see each light separately through the prism.

Was that a typo? I'm sure you meant much more *expensive* than Verizon
when you factor in the additional terms and conditions (or didn't you
read the fine print?) and the additional ETF, the agreement not to
change/alter/modify your contract for additional years, etc. etc. etc.
All resellers tack on their own additonal terms which will cost you
hundreds of dollars if you leave early or change to a less expensive
contract.

I don't get why there are so many resellers, it seems to me that while you
may pay a little less at a reseller, the deal isn't very good.
There are a lot of what look like dollar store resellers in strip malls,
I just don't get how they stay in business.
>I don't get why there are so many resellers, it seems to me that while you

I can't see it either. They must get a commission off the contract
that off-balances the cost of the phone, or they wouldn't be doing
it for so long. Since my canceled order, I read the terms/etc
from Wirefly, and it is nastier then Verizions, so somehow it
must all balance out. Also, they must get the phones cheap.
>There are a lot of what look like dollar store resellers in strip malls,

My brother works for a car part company that buys up leftover
stock from Ford (or insert name here) dealers, and they buy it
at close to $.15 on a dollar, throw 25% of it away, yet make
danger money to the point they are VERY fluid and profitable.
The 'dollar' stores I'd guess pay $.15 at best for each item,
if not less when it's a chain store. It's all in the math. We have
a few '$' stores around here, and many times, they have the
same item as the retail store across the street that sells it at
x times the price. Makes ya wonder how much profit is in
this world on each item. At Lowes last month, I called to see
if they had a A/C unit they advertised in stock. Guy said they
did. I drive there, manager told me they have been out of stock
for weeks...but..would I take the next model up for the same price?
Adv'd price was $99. I just wanted a rain check. He gave me a $140
unit for $99. How could I refuse? So, if the math all works out,
they must pay less then $99 for the $140 unit. OR, the deal they
gave me is off-shot by the profit they make on other things.
I called Lowes later to buy a steam cleaner. They were out of stock,
told me they would ship me one. ALSO, they matched the Walmart lower
price, deducted 10% from THAT, and even gave me another $10 off
THAT price, and included free shipping! They must make it up somehow.
Some companies just give a sheit about keeping customers..
It also shows that ya get better service remaining calm, then yelling
and *****in' etc etc etc. Honey vs dog poop, attitude wise. Took me
years to learn that. Now, the calmer I remain, the better treated..

Spelling is frequently a problem, even for those whose native language
is English.

I did look. There is an extra ETF from Wirefly for 6 months and I can't
move the phone to a different line. I'm on the minimum Verizon Family
Plan so that's not changing. Since I do not intend to change my plan,
sell the phone, or anything else other than use the phone for at least
the length of the Verizon contract, 6 months was not a major concern for me.

The resellers generally offer lower prices than Verizon stores if you
can live with the more onerous terms and conditions. If, like most
subscribers, you intend to just fulfill the two year contract commitment
without canceling, the extra savings by buying from a reseller may be
worth it. I.e., besides the lower price for handsets, the Costco kiosks
do not charge any activation fee and thrown in an after-market case, car
charger, and wired headset, which are worth maybe $8 (though you'd pay
$30-50 for them at a Verizon store). So you could save $75-100 or so by
buying from a reseller, depending on the handset and depending on the
deals that Verizon's company-owned stores are offering.

There are resellers and resellers, I'd not hesitate to buy from
Costco (and have) or Amazon.com or maybe RadioShack but I'd never
deal with Wirefly or .....
Of course having experienced the wonderfulness of Ebay or Craig's List
coupled with no contract I doubt I'll ever own a new phone again.
