Verizon wireless outage 9/9 ?

Just curious. Friday afternoon in Hawthorne, NY, my LG VX8300 was having no
problems calling and receiving. A friend with a Palm Pre, also on Verizon,
in the same building was getting 'searching for service'. He called the
verizon store and was told that the network was down.

I couldn't find any information on what/why... Does anybody know what
happened?
