Verizon Wireless VIP Club - A new retention program?
I assume the new Verizon Wireless VIP club is a retention program.
I've been a VZW customer since April 2002, so I figured this is aimed
at long time customers of at least 4 to 5 years (maybe more?).
I just got literature in the mail today (nice booklet, several pages,
color photos) that describes the VIP program. I also have a special
VIP Program card that I can use either on-line or at a VZW (corporate)
store.
They even have their own website and a special toll free number for
you to call.
You can tell that they're trying to compete with other companies to
keep you as a customer. I don't know how successful this will be.
Here are some of the details of the plan (this is quoted verbatim):
* A FREE one-time Bonus Minutes Credit of up to 500 minutes. With our
newest program benefit, there's never been a better time to be a VIP.
If you happen to exceed your allowance minutes, just call us for a
bill adjustment. It's that easy! We'll issue you a one-time credit of
up to 500 minutes. We'll then do a complimentary Price Plan Analysis
to ensure you're on the right calling plan for your needs.
This special credit is valid through December 31, 2007 and
can only be redeemed once by calling 1-800-477-7752. But you do have
to call, since bill adjustments are not automatically awarded.
* Save on a new phone every year. The hottest phones. The latest
technology. Now you can take advantage of discounted phone prices
earlier than before after the 12th month of a 2 year Customer
Agreement with a 2 year renewal. Refresh your phone today and get FREE
shipping. Enjoy the savings. That's what being a VIP is all about. One
phone upgrade permitted per year with a 2 year renewal. Must complete
12 full months of contract to become eligible for the annual upgrade.
$20 upgrade processing fee will be waived for eligible VIP mobile
telephone numbers.
* 25% off phone accessories, plus FREE shipping.
Whatever you do and wherever you go, we have specially designed
accessories to help enhance your wireless experience. From fashionable
phone cases, extra batteries and car chargers, to convenient
hands-free headsets, including Bluetooth® wireless technology, you now
have access to a 25% discount anytime you want it.
Excludes Accessory Bundles, Essential Bundles, RAZRWire Bluetooth
Eyewear, gift cards and Prepay cards.
* FREE phone book transfer. We know how important the names and
numbers you store in your phone are. That's why, when you buy a new
phone we'll transfer your contact list from your old phone to your new
one a $ 10 value! It will save you time and money, and keep you
connected with friends, family and associates. Phone book transfer
performed at most Verizon Wireless Communications Stores.
* FREE activation when you add lines. As a VIP member, you can add
additional lines to your existing account without paying any
activation charges — save up to $35 on each line! So, extend the
invitation to your family members. They'll be glad you did.
Subject to 1 or 2 year Customer Agreement and Calling Plan per line;
up to $175 early termination fee per line, other charges and
restrictions may apply.
(end quote here)
Again, just wondering if anyone else received this in the mail and
what they thought of it?

Maybe the offer is regional. I have 4 family phones on an ACI 1500
minute plan, spend more money, have always been a family plan
customer since 2001, and have not received a VIP promotion letter.

Um, I've never heard about this VIP plan, yet I got virtually all
those features when I bought a new phone and upgraded my calling plan
last Saturday (1/20). Even though it wasn't on my old plan, they gave
me the "new ever 2" discount, which made the phone essentially free
(except for the taxes of about $18). Didn't charge a phone
activitation fee, didn't charge to transfer my entire phonebook from
the old phone to the new phone. So I walked out of there with a new
phone and new plan for a grand total of $18. (I went from the ooooold
National Single Rate plan to the America's Choice plan). However, this
was at the store I've always dealt with. When I stopped in at another
store (both Verizon company stores, =not= third party contract stores)
they wouldn't give me the "new every 2" discount, and said there'd be
a $35 activation fee for the new phone AND they'd have to charge me to
transfer my phonebook contents. Needless to say I went back to my
"home" store.
Now if I could just figure out how to use all the fancy bells and
whistles on the new phone.... <g>

I have a larger plan than that. The only thing I remember getting was
the "something" rewards or merits card about a year ago. It offered the
NE1 deal, some % off accessories and no charge for phone book transfers.

I disagree. I happen to like them. Been a customer since 2002, plan on
keeping them. Best carrier around. Doesn't mean they're perfect, just
better than Stinkular, Sprint, T-Mobile, etc.
Re: Verizon Wireless VIP Club - A new retention program?
I've been with them for over 10 yrs and this will be my last when
contract is up. The crap they try to pull. Did you get your bill yet
about the rate going up for txt messages ? going up a nickel both ways.
Total BS.. They say you get out of contract if it causes a adverse effect.
I smell class action here.
But when people call, They won't let them out of contract.

Read the message again.
If you DON"T have a current messaging plan, the rate goes up.
If you are ON a current plan, the rate stays the same.
Notice of Text Messaging Increase, which only applies to
customers without a Messaging Package.
If you are not currently subscribed to a Messaging Package, beginning
March 1, 2007, the price for sending TXT Messages to the U.S., Puerto
Rico, Canada, and Mexico - as well as the price of receiving TXT
Messages from anywhere - will increase from $0.10 to $0.15 per
message. The price to send an International TXT Message will remain
$0.25 per message. If you do subscribe to a Messaging Package, your
package rates will stay the same. For information regarding this change,

Re: Verizon Wireless VIP Club - A new retention program?
You should also re-read it. I did. It says, It's going up to .15 per. IF
your not on a plan. I don't have a plan. But when signing a contract
last sept and contract is good for 1yr It states it's .10 per txt
message. I've filled out small claims court papers and they should be at
verizon by Monday. And a few things I've asked for is court fees along
with a pro-rated refund on my phone. If they can charge me 175.00 to
cancel I can do the same for the price of the phone.

How can they raise the rate when your 1 or 2 yr contract says .01 a
message. That's the BS.. I don't thus will be getting out of my plan.
If they don't allow it, Then It's small claims court which is right
across the street for the local company store.

Does the contract actually say anything about texting rates? Most
wireless contracts I've signed say nothing about guaranteeing the costs
of add-ons like texting or mobile web access. (These weren't with Verizon,
however, so I'm not implying your contract is the same.)

Good luck with that. I strongly suspect that Verizon ran this rate
change past better lawyers than you when they decided to adopt it.
Besides, if the court finds that the 10-cent texting rate _is_ covered by
the contract, Verizon could simply be ordered to honor it and, say,
refund you 5-cents for each text they charge you 15-cents for until your
year is up. Why should they let you out of the contract rather than
simply comply with it?
If you texted enough that 15-cents (or even 10-cents) per was a hardship,
you'd have a texting plan, so obviously this isn't about an extra nickel
a text- you want out of your contract and you see an opportunity to get
out. Good luck.

So you get what you paid for, which is the same old messaging, and I get
what I paid for (according to you), which is 50% more for my 50% more
money.
Be sure and let me know what I'm getting for my 50% more money next month,
will you?

Hmmm...50% more ticked off?
I remember (too long ago to mention here) fax attacks. Back when small
fax machines were finally cheap enough small business (mom & pop) could
afford them. The thermal paper was expensive as hell but they had a
fax. The spammers' ancestors used dos machines to to dial, detect fax
numbers, build fax databases etc. Then bombard the collected fax
numbers with ads.
Sorry, back to attacks. The tickor would send the tickee hundreds (or
more) faxes, burning up a roll of costly paper. Do it Fri. night and
Mon. morning no paper. Worse yet, no sales (or whatever) over the
weekend. Mom or pop were plenty ticked off.
Are we charged for all we receive, only ones we read, or what?

Is there no way to refuse a message (aside from having all messages
blocked ie no message service)?
I can visualize some feuding goin' on esp. with things like num@vzwpix.
Big guy with club (unlimited) vs little guy with bump on head (per
message). Actually bgwc doesn't even need unlimited. Web based mail
would allow it.
So many ways to pick on people now days. Sad.

I think any carrier that charges for messaging should have a whitelist
filter in place. However I am not aware of any carrier that does.
