VX8300 or RAZR V3

I have an LG VX6100 and I'm coming up on my 2 year contract date and am
eligible for the new-every-2 discount for a new phone. My daughter is also
on my plan (family share) and has a crappy Moto 120e phone. Two years ago
the AC plan I got was 400 minutes. I was thinking of either the VX8300 or
the RAZR V3.
I need bluetooth and speakerphone, other than that I don't need any other
bells/whistles.
I think the 8300 is a better phone for me and would be free. And I was
thinking to upgrade my daughter's phone to the RAZR (would cost $99 with her
$50 discount).

Mu daughter is more interested in the 'coolness' factor than I am. She also
wouldn't mind listening to music/MP3. I heard there is a way to enable MP3
on the 8300, not sure it is available and can be done on the RAZR.

Any thoughts on which is a better phone?

Well, here's my 2 cents.

I've got the VX8300 myself, which, was an upgrade from a VX6100, and I love it. The camera is nicer, you can take video, and you can listen to music or watch videos. The
reception is absolutely amazing IMO, and I can even place phone calls just fine in my basement, which I couldn't do with my VX6100. The VX8300 is really a remarkable phone.

You can unlock MP3 playback by going to the secret menu, which, once your at the main menu screen, you hit the number 0 I believe 7 times until a new menu pops up. Then there's
an option further down to enable it.

If your daughter is more interested in the "coolness" factor of a phone, then there probably wouldn't be any convincing her of getting something other than the RZR, but here's
some food for thought... is it really that cool to have something which seemingly everyone else also has?

Do you (or anyone) know if you'd be able to access/use AIM or Yahoo IM from
the 8300?

Now what make's you think a phone that has all or most of the latest bells
& whistles could possibly handle something as *complicated* as IM ??

Of course there's only about 4,852 sites that give cellphone details.Maybe
you want to check one out ?

Yup, the VX8300 and most, if not all, new VZW phones come with a Mobile IM application. It uses 1 text message per message, inbound or outbound, as well as a message to log on,
one message to log off, and multiple messages for your contact list details. It adds up fast!

lg vx8300 is good phone for the money in today's market, i got one for
my wife.

About a month or so into my new 8300--seems like a good phone--not as
good reception as my old Audiovox 9500, but I guess the power output
of the new phones has been diminished--at least that's what I was
told.
Anyway, all the features are fine--but, if you want a cell phone
-Speakerphone-to be usable in your vehicle much like a Nextel unit,
then don't buy it! Unless I stop the car, there is no way to use the
phone and have a reliable, somewhat clear conversation using it. I
have tried it every place(yes, it is a new car)--the bluetooth
earpiece helps--but the price is steep. Now I am going to go real
goofy and buy a blue tooth GPS for the car that will act as a
microphone/speaker and it works well. I just can't figure out why
Nextel can do it and no one else wants to.

...oh yes, I was able to get a data cable and now the 8300 will act as
a modem, just like the older ones did--even though VZ said the feature
was dropped! At least one of the 6100 features---prepend dial when
calling back received calls is still eluding me.
I use my cell phone a lot. More people ask me to repeat what I said
than did with the 6100, and just about no one did with the Audiovox.

Anyway, FWIW and it is just my opinion.
