The more I look, the less I see. I need a new Bluetooth earpiece. My wants:
* over the ear, not in the ear
* decent audio both ways
* obviously, works with CDMA phones, specifically my V710
* comfortable for long periods of wear
* extra features (call waiting, call reject, etc.) appreciated

Cardo Scala 500 or 700. I got a 500 with my E815, and I love it. The
700 is smaller and lighter, and may have a little more functionality,
but my 500 already can do call waiting, activate voice calling,
redial, and probably something else that I'm not thinking of.
The noise cancelling in the Jawbone is really awesome....
jawbone.com I think.

They're exclusively sold by Cingular stores, if I did my research right.
I went to a Cingular store; they were sold out but they had one
demonstrator. It goes in the ear. Thanks, but I already have a gizmo
that I put to my ear when talking on the phone and take off my ear when
not talking; it's called my phone.

No, they are shipping directly now.... for a couple of weeks.
You 'research' is old.+
No phone in existence does noise cancelling....

I should have mentioned that the two H700s I had were wonderful for the
first few hours while they worked; after a few hours each one had a
different failure mode. I did mention it in an earlier thread of a
different subject.

I'm starting to like the 700 from the reviews. Know where I can see one
in meatspace?

Never mind, they don't exist in meatspace. I was hoping to see one and
maybe buy one with a return privilege, but most of the stuff I read says
that people have mondo trouble returning stuff they order on-line,
especially if it's not broken and they just don't like it. I guess I'll
just buy whatever I can find under $15 and put up with it.

Try Craigslist. Or buy online and if you don't like it, sell it on CL
or Ebay.
Bluetooth earpieces make people look STUPID. Why would you ever wear one?

Some states make it illegal to drive without a handsfree cellphone
device, and a Bluetooth headset is more functional and comfortable
than a wired earpiece and cheaper than a speakerphone setup in your
car. I like the fact that with the Scala 500, you can answer a call by
tapping your ear with your shoulder if you've got your hands full.
I agree, though...if you're wearing it around but not talking and/or
driving, just wearing it on standby, you do look kind of toolish, like
you're auditioning for Star Trek or something. Actually, that's
another bonus with the Scala 500. It's low-profile and the BT light
just flashes every 10 seconds or so, not like it's trying to be a
piece of techy jewelry.

I thought it looked stupid when I first started wearing my HS850. But it
was handy, and handy overcame stupid. Nowadays I see a lot of people
wearing them when they're not using them, which only goes to show that
I am a man ahead of his time. Seriously, I think it's going to become
common enough that people won't even notice, in less than a year.

The US Post Office should just raise postage rates by two dollars an ounce
with the promise that they won't raise rates for at least a week. They'll
never go for it; they couldn't possibly wait a whole week.

Another nice thing about the Scala is the included neck strap- I keep it
tucked under my shirt so I can have it handy without walking around with
it perched on my ear.
I have a HS850 and use it sometimes. BUT I only put it on my ear when
I am talking. It folds up and turns off and I then leave it in my
pocket or my ashtray (I have a non smoking car).

Until that last, I was going to ask what color your ear was.

Funny- that reminded me of an episode of the new Dr. Who series on the
BBC last season where BT earpieces were used for mind control. A great
scene has an "army" of folks in business attire walking in lockstep down
a London street, their BT earphones flashing in perfect unison...

Why not just get the goddamned phone implanted in your face?
You shouldn't be talking on the phone while driving, PERIOD.

I'll try and remember everything you've taught me.
I got into this in the middle. I use my bluetooth headset in my
pocket. If I need to answer the phone or make a call I pull it out of
my pocket and put it on my ear. When I am done I close it and it is
off.
I have a good experience with the Motorola HS850, which nowadays is
sold at Costco for $40.

I went to Costco to look at their selection and the kiosk had absolutely
nothing in the way of Bluetooth accessories. Conspicuous by their absence
were headsets like the HS850.
I liked my HS850, just figured there might be newer, better stuff out
there.
