Default What the hell is Mobile Web? or Can Gleam access the Internet?

Hi, for the past couple o' years I've had an XV6700 with a data plan whereby
I can access The Internet. But I'm sick of paying $25 for my 5 megs of data
a month and was looking at a new phone.

So I see all these Verizon phones that use "Verizon Mobile Web 2.0" which I
must admit I know nothing about. Verizon's website talks about all its
"content providers" and "partners" and so forth but I don't want to access
those, I want to access the full Internet! I have some road traffic sites
and other things that aren't affiliated with Verizon that I check almost
every day during my (long) commute.

I like the "Gleam" because of its light weight, flip, etc.

So my questions are:

1) Does "mobile web 2.0" = The Internet?
2) If not, can I get through to The Internet through mobile web 2.0?
3) If not, can the Gleam access The Internet in a way that has nothing to do
with mobile web 2.0?
4) If not, what Verizon phones *can* access The Internet?

Thx very much!

PDA phones are not capable accessing VZW's "Mobile Web 2.0". VZW's Mobile
Web is a web Proxy that only allows viewing of sites specifically designed
as "mobile" sites (i.e. small screen format, etc.).

PDA phones access the "full Internet" as you call it. Their data plans are
more expensive for this reason (according to VZW - I'm just the messenger).

Bottom line, if you want data with a PDA you gotta pay more than a regular
phone...

Frank is right. However,, for people with non-PDA phones, if they are Web
capable, you don't need to pay Vzw the $5/mo they require for web access.
I've been using Hopke.net as my web proxy rather than Vzw. I have to buy
access for a year but they charge $18 for a year of service, which comes out
to $1.50 per month. Vzw charges you to use their web proxy/homepage. There
are other options besides using Vzw on your phone, they are legal and
cheaper than Vzw.
