Default Where to buy accessories?

I don't eBay, so it can be tough finding accessories at decent prices and
taking a chance on unknown vendors.

Right now I'm specifically looking for a Moto SKN6311B cable, preferably
with a copy of MPT. The best deal I've found so far appears to be at
Pricegrabber, whose contract agreement looks like indentured servitude.
Bypassing them and going direct to the vendor, the price gets multiplied
by five.

So I'm asking for vendor recommendations, specific and general.

There are vendors who actually do business without using eBay as an
intermediary. Really! I've bought from some of them. I just haven't found
any who deal in cellular stuff.

I know people have mentioned on-line businesses they liked buying from
in this newsgroup in the past. It's not easy googlegrouping for the names.
So I figured I'd ask and people might volunteer them.

cellantenna.com great place for RF products

http://www.cellularaccessory.com/
I don't know anything they don't have....

http://www.wirelessemporium.com/
These guys gave me great service, too.

I can't find their webpage at the moment due to an upgrade of the
mainframe's hard drive structure, but there was a Chinese company
that had REALLY, REALLY cheap accessories for my motorolas, so
cheap I took a chance and ordered $2 DC charging cords, $3
leather case, etc. They came FROM CHINA, direct, through the
postal system, FREE! Sorry I can't located them quick enough but
I got a lot of neat stuff for $20, direct from the source. They
did have a US 800 number that must have been VoIP'd to China, to
order. I bought lots of cheaply priced, but good working Chinese
accessories from them....no name stuff.

May I ask why you "don't eBay?"

I can understand not wanting to mess with auctions for such low
dollar items, but frankly most of the cellular accessories sold on
eBay are sold outright without an auction. Most of the larger cell
accessory Vendors take credit cards directly, so you don't have to
mess with setting up a PayPal account if you don't want to.

EBay, for good or for bad, is a very inexpensive way to set up an
online store, so many of the low-margin low-price import cell
accessory vendors can be found there. Even those with "real"
websites often sell the same items for less in their eBay stores.

It's a whole lot easier if you SEARCH for them, rather than trying
google.....

using www.search.com and searching on cell phone accessories gets about
1,200,020 hits... There's over a milion listed on there... Just looked at
the first 3 and not only do they have all sorts of stuff, but sell online
too....

First 5 shown here... just for a very very very small sample of the over a
million listed...

Don't make it harder than it needs to be. Just enter the product number
(SKN6311 in to your Search Engine, and you will get very specific results.
I use Dogpile and the very first entry offers the cable for $12.99,
http://www.malcomwireless.com/wirele...13990&phoneid=

I've bought batteries from Malcomwireless, and it was a very good deal and
delivered very quickly. The big ripoff with eBay retailers is that they
charge WAY too much for shipping where others sometimes charge nothing.

I also enter the product number in Amazon and find good deals, too.

True, but I look at the big picture. What's the difference if my $5
leather case is $5 with free shipping or $0.01 with $4.99 shipping?
Either way, it's costing me $5. The inflated eBay shipping prices
are just a scam perpetrated by sellers to avoid paying eBay the 5%
commission on the sale price of the items.

Well, these are great ideas for finding on-line companies who sell cell
stuff, but it doesn't tell me a thing about how reputable any of those
companies is. If people were to jump in with their personal recommendations,
companies with which they've done business and had no problems, I'd have
some real information.

I was using Google Groups ("googlegrouping") to try to find some of the
recommendations people have made here in the froup in the past. No joy.

I found it for $5.49 *at MalcomWireless* on PriceGrabber.
http://www.pricegrabber.com/user_sal...0f7d34ae50f6db
That's when I started to move toward buying it, and read the PriceGrabber
agreement that looks so much like indentured servitude.

Then I went to MalcomWireless and they want $26.99 for it there.
http://www.malcomwireless.com/wirele...roductid=44402
In both cases the product referred to is the Motorola part number 98741H,
which is a copy of MPT with two cables included.

They seem to get good ratings wherever you find them. But now I have three
different prices for the same article. Picture my first impression of them.

And still, using a search engine to find a company leaves me with no way to
figure out whether I'll ever even get the merchandise, or end up spending
the next three months fighting credit-card fraud, or just plain getting
spammed senseless. Getting a recommendation here seems a little more sane.

Good point...I use eBay as a buying guide much more than as a place to buy.
I figure if I can get an item from an eBay seller with an excellent rep for,
say $10 including shipping, why should I pay $15 or $20 elsewhere?

I know the $4.99 shipping for the 1c item "scam" too, and one would have to
be extremely naive to get "taken" here. Certainly no worse than, say, JC
Whitney /aka "Warshawsky" or whatever, they eat you alive on shipping.
Charging shipping "and handling" on a scale based strictly on purchase price
is a bigger ripoff. Who's kidding who, when you receive something you paid
$5 to ship arrives in a 2c envelope with a 43c stamp?

As posted above, eBay merchants also have "stores" with sometimes excellent
prices. You don't have to set up an eBay account, and now that many credit
card issuers offer "virtual card numbers", I can see no reason not to deal
with them if you possess a credit card.

I find shopoem.com to be good, fast, and reliable. They show the cable
and MPT for under $15.
Their main downsides are that they sell stuff so cheap that it's often
out of stock, and they don't stock stuff for all phones.
Moto, stuff though, they usually have.
