Default Wireless broadband worth it?

It just came to my city and costs $60, but after you add all the fees
and taxes I am guessing it will be $75/month. I am currently paying $45
for cable modem internet. I do travel every two weeks, but so far have
gotten by with using my cell phone on express network which is free. Is
it just a luxury or is there something I am missing about what I can do
with it?

It's about 1/10th the speed of your cable modem, but that doesn't matter.
You're LIMITED to 5GB per month or they'll automatically dump you and
you're LIMITED to webpage spam, email and, to sell it to businesses,
company intranet.

Any real use of the bandwidth, whatever it is, is verboten....no
streaming, no VoIP (of course..(c, no downloading dirty movies from
usenet, no downloading at all!

So, no matter how fast it is....it certainly isn't worth $75/month unless
you're trapped and just must have internet service on the move, where
it's the only slow game in town.

Cellular is still selling bandwidth by the kilobyte, at least in their
little greedy minds.....

It doesn't sound like you need it. I use it for 9-10 hours a day, five days
a week and it's great, but cable is much faster. If you aren't in a position
where you really need to use it mobile, I would spend the money on something
else. Oddly, there are essentially no taxes or fees on my bill.

And.... the actual reality again.....
(Larry tends to exaggerate a bit...)
Most always full of negative BS...
And misleading usually.

1st, if you also have a voice plan, it's $59.
Without - $79.

And, as to the usefulness. If you need to have mobile data
it's great. And with rev A soon, even better. The speed, isn't
that bad now, 500 to 1400Kbps. Average will probably be around
800kbps or higher. Rev A will take it over 1M. Not bad for anywhere,
anytime connectivity. Key here is the anywhere (within coverage).

As a replacement or substitute for cable/DSL, I'd say probably not.
It isn't meant to be. Unless, of course you couldn't get anything
else.

Yes, there is a 5G limit. The service is NOT meant to be used
for continuous, high bandwidth connections. Like Larry's porn downloading.
Or, running a server, etc.

Thus, the T&Cs are restrictive, at first glance. Lawyer weasel speak is all it is.
Don't let it spook you - there are some caveats and bottom line, it's just all
CYA stuff, a cover all, shotgun approach.

Contrary to Larry's always negative BS, as long as you keep it under 5G, you
can use it for absolutely whatever you want, with ZERO problems. VZW only looks
at the volume of data - keep it under the 5G and do what the heck you want.

I generally concur, but I don't think it's quite *that*
straightforward.

Wireless Broadband is a limited, shared resource; so I can understand
their emphases on weeding out bandwidth hogs and otherwise problematic
customers. (I observed an instance where Verizon apparently TOS'd a
user because he was annoying them with repeated calls to support)

That being said, I've been using the Verizon service for just under a
year and continue to be impressed with the coverage and speed.

I wish more companies would do that since support can be a major part of
the cost of a service. I know someone who constantly abuses support to
the point of demanding that they also support stuff that is not their
problem as in "everything was OK until I connected your product etc"
even though it wasn't.

I used to work with a "Larry" (someone with a permanent black cloud over
their head who no matter how good something is can only see the bad
side). It got to the point that people would just walk away when they
saw him coming. It would be easy to imagine him finding a $100 bill and
complaining that it wasn't a fifty, a twenty, two tens and two fives.

If you are in NY, they aren't allowed to apply sales tax to Internet
access. It's been that way for about ten years now.

Offtopic a bit, it's that way with my Verizon Online DSL access. It's
just the $29.95 / month and no more.
