Default Bootup problem - connecting IDE cable causes fault

Hi,
Thanks to some of you guys I had some luck troubleshooting what I
thought was a power supply problem which turned out to be what I thought
was an IDE cable problem.

Still, a strange issue continues - symptoms below;

1. If I don't connect any IDE cables or floppy drive cable, PC powers on
fine, all drives have power and HDD spins up.
2. If I connect floppy drive, as above - all works.
3. Any other device connected to the primary or secondary IDE via a
cable stops responding. CDRW doesn't eject, DVD rom doesn't eject, HDD
doesn't spin up.

I've replaced cables, no effect. Any suggestions?
Cheers,
Chris.

So, when anything is connected to the IDE ports, the computer refuses to
boot up?

Definate symptom of an upside down IDE cable (or a defective one)
