Default DELL Inspiron 8500 Limited or No Connectivity Error Message - Help?

I have a DELL Inspiron 8500 that I have installed a fresh copy of XP
SP3 on. I have installed the various drivers provided for the Service
Tag. Device Manager shows no error flag for Network Adaptors. I get
no internet connectivity from either a wired CAT5 connection or from
wireless. My router is concurrently working fine with another
desktop. Ipconfig on the laptop shows no address.
The laptop wireless router is Dell TrueMobile 1300 WLAN Mini-PCI Card.

I also see "This connection has limited or no connectivity. You might
not be able to access the Internet or some network resources. " Which
I don't.

Google shows this problem as known, but reveals that the error needed
a fix if SP2. but not SP3. That fix is KB884020.
So my problem must lie elsewhere.

What to do, what to do. Anyone suggest?

Thanks

Big Fred

You may still need the fix - "SP2 needed" often means "SP2 or
later needed".
Are both your main router and the Dell set up to use DHCP?
