Default Display issue with Dell E1505 with ATI Radeon X1300

Hello Gurus,

I just brought a Dell E1505 with ATI Radeon X1300 128MB and after
booting up noticed that screen (bacground image, taskbar etc) doesn't
display colors correctly. It appears as if it is set to lowest
resolution and colors are not solid.

I checked the resolution which is set to 1280 by 768 and color quality
is Highest(32 bit). Called up Dell support who made me uninstall and
re-install video drivers but couldn't solve the issue.

Is there anything I need to check? Where do you think might be the
problem? Please suggest. Your inputs are truly appreciated,

TIA,
Srujan

What does "not solid" mean exactly?
What resolution does it look like?

Does Display Properties properly identify the video? On the
video Properties pages, is there anything else that is
revealing?

From the Dell specs, it looks like it's supposed to use 1280
x 800, not 1280 x 768. You might try a newer video driver.

Is it supposed to have a 1280 x 768 native resolution
screen? If not, change it to the specified native
resolution. You might try changing it to 16bpp color depth,
just to see what it does.

Lastly, why not call Dell back and insist that they fix
this? You presumably paid for a new, fully working laptop
so you should not have to fix this initial flaw.
