DVR-K17A firmware?

Hi all.
Just picked up a Toshiba L40 Vistaboxen with one of these drives.

It writes but fails at a random point on a TDK CDR. I've tried several
of these and they worked fine on my old laptop.

Does anyone know if Pioneer will be releasing a firmware update for
these drives? They are pretty new but the compatibility shouldn't be
this bad surely... ?!
