having power surge on notebook unpredictible power off...

It happens unpredicitble, it just powers off... it turns on, it works,
just stupid laptop doens't have friggin(...in.)
audio driver, as HP don't keep in on their page anymore. What's worst
this notebook is an older machine which is working flawlesly, and i
would sell it for a stupid sum of pappers, but it just doens't have
audio driver and it powers off suddenly.

I tried 2 universal adapters and 1 compatible HP power adapter,
19V---3.5A...idon't have the original pwer adapter, but i doubt it's
abput adapter, seems or the motherboard(some old solderings had run
out) or the power jack-in ...1!???!

nevertheless what i have now is the ambiguity wheter to keep it that
way and sell it with a warranty or to throw it away ?...

it's a good resolution notebook with Super-ultra-Vauu LEDs on every
special keys and on the special AUDIO panel with little blue LCD
indicator for time and audio stuff. Really good work from HP. Just
don't know what could i do to test the power surge i.e. voltage
sag ? could i somehow measure it with multimeter-voltmeter ???

Ok, i have opened the beast's mouth and capish that the cpu is too
hot, so i have removed the heatsink and added a cpu paste and removed
the decoupage foliage which was sticked to the heatsink. Alu made....

so i hope now something could improve...also i have removed adittional
256MB ddr Pc2100 which was situated under the keyboard.

as it showed 384MBs all the time, but 2x256MB have been installed in
it...

so or the ram was the problem, or the CPU...or the problem is
motherboard somewhere...RAM was previously tested and passed OK!


.....possible solutions ??

I have made my own conclusion: this notebook is for a garbage, not for
use.

Have you checked to see if your HP's battery is on one of their many
recall lists?

The battery need not fail entirely to be a hazard to the machine or to
you. There have even been a few fires from what I have read.

it is a Pavillion but an older version, ...
seems like it is not on the list. may-be the battery problem, not that
i'm doubtful, but it cost me much more to make this huge test than to
throw it away...

What model number is it?

Did you try plugging in one RAM stick at a time, in both RAM slots, or
better running a memory tester (you can download free ones or run one
from an Ubuntu CD).
