Default How Do I Cancel Printing on Pagepro 1350W Laser Printer?

One problem after another. It never ends.

Oh well - here is another one for which I am in hope someone has a
solution.

I am trying to print a few pages on my Konica-Minolta Pagepro 1350W
Laser Printer. I am running WXP PRO SP2 on my PC.

The printer box shows that printing is in progress, but the printer
will not print. I don't think it is the printer because it prints
normally. However, my problem is that when I delete (or cancel) the
print 'job', the printer-window shows 'deleting', but it never
happens. My only recourse has been to shut down and re-boot. When I
do that, the printer window 'job' is gone as it should be. But this
is getting tiring at best. Wouldn't be so bad, but it happens a lot.

Anything I can do here?

Thanks

Jethro

I don't do printing in Windows, but this is where I'd start.

On my Win2K machine, there is "Administrative Tools" in the Control Panel
folder. There is a shortcut called "Services" in there, or you could
navigate to Services within "Computer Management".

In "Services", you'll see "print spooler". It is possible that
stopping and starting that service, *may* do the equivalent of
the reboot you are using currently. But it doesn't change whatever
your underlying problem is.

Thanks Paul.

I went there and found and tried starting/stopping. So - the next
time I get into the printing problem I'll try it. It would beat
re-booting all to H---.

I think the underlying problem is the non-standard cartridge I am
using which cause the printer to stop with an innocuous warning window
each time I print.

Is it USB or networked? I'd look for a different driver for
it.

So this happens with ALL print jobs from that system with
that OS? I am assuming you have tried something basic like
plain text from Notepad. Is there a taskbar tray icon or
some other printer status panel (software on the PC) that
shows whether it thinks printer is ready to print?

What is the scenario when it does print? Had you retried it
in this scenario _after_ having printing fail and it then
worked, ruling out a printer failure after that point in
time? If it's USB, you aren't using one of those dodgy
clear USB cables with the LEDs built in are you? I've had a
few printers that won't work with (some of) those.

Had this printer worked on this system previously? Had this
PC used another printer successfully with this (or another)
OS, and had you made any OS changes (like installing SP2)?

I have never been able to network this laser printer. I have been
told that it requires some sort of special network interface (extra
$). It is USB-connected to a single machine on which these problems
occur. I tried the other machine once, and same thing happened.

I also have an EPSON R320 and a HP 950 A-I-O. They both work fine and
do not have this problem, and they are networked so I can print on
them from my second machine.

I am using an ordinary USB cable (<10'). The scenario is:
1) I print something (a few pages).
2) Printing stops with printer's ready light back on solid.
3) The window warning me about the cartridge appears on the screen.
4) If I fail to x-out of that window in a few seconds or so, if I
then x-out of the window and then try to print something, the printer
window shows that I am printing, but no printing occurs and the
printer ready light blinks like it normally would when printing.
If I delete the print job or cancel it, the printer window shows that
the job is being cancelled - but but but it stays that way forever. Or
at least until I shut down and re-boot, at which time the
printer-window is cleared.

I just repeated the above using Wordpad to print twice one line of
small x's. The first page printed fine, but not the second because
the printer was flashing its trouble-light. The print window is
locked after I tried to delete the second print job and shows the
print job is being deleted, but of course it never will be, until I
re-boot. I tried manually turning the printer off then on, which
returned the printer to its ready-state, but the printer window
remains with the delete indicated.

I hope I am explaining things clearly.

What window and what warning? Have you taken out the
cartridge, rocked it back and forth, and inspected the
electrical contacts? Might you have a spare cartridge you
could swap in? Does the problem only happen with it first
printing ok (when printer is cold), then only starts having
trouble after having done a prior job and warmed up? Is the
2nd job always failing, or could you print two jobs in rapid
succession and they'd go through, only after a few moment(s)
had passed would it begin failing to print?

What if you don't touch the printer window, just turn off
the printer then turn back on? And/or then cancel job and
retry it?/

I'd seek a different driver, if the cartridge doesn't seem
bad... if it's under warranty still (and considering same
problem from a 2nd system), you might seek an RMA.

Had it ever worked right and what has happened since then
(if anything)?/

The error window is:

TO ENSURE THE BEST PRINT QUALITY VERIFY THAT A GENUINE KONICA MINOLTA
TONER CARTRIDGE IS INSTALLED IN THE PRINTER.

PROBLEMS CAUSED BY NON KONICA MINOLTA CONSUMABLES COULD INVALIDATE
YOUR WARRANTY
<OK>

This problem has existed since the day I replaced the cartridge with
the present one.

I do not have another spare.

Yes I can print more than 1 job as long as I do it rapidly. I've done
3 or 4 that way.

It happens cold or hot.

I have had the cartridge for several months, so I don't think RMA is
feasible.

Thanks

Sorry about that. I thought asking questions was how discussions
worked.

Yes this printer worked great UNTIL I bought/installed the new
cartridge.

Yes this printer failed identically on two WXP PRO SP2 systems.

Yes This PC, and another, PC works fine with two other printers
(HP950 A-I-O & EPSON R320).

No changes to XP PRO. Been running SP2 for over a year.

If you are going to say to buy a new Minolta cartridge, save your
breath. I plan to do just that.

Thanks for Ur times.

I meant RMA the whole printer, but now I'm wondering if this
is Konica's not so subtle way of telling you that they don't
like losing cartridge sales... so I guess I'd flip a coin to
decide whether to replace the cartridge or the whole
printer... or if you have the original cart still, maybe
dumping the toner out of the present cart and into the old
one, if that printer doesn't store and remember cart serial
#s (I don't know if it does).
