Inverter problem

Hello. I have a Gateway 400VTX Laptop. Today I had the screen's
inverter stop working. This happened before about a hour ago. What
can be the underlying reason? Can it simply be a faulty inverter?

Yep, it usually is. It can obviously be the associated cabling too.
