Have you installed your mainboard CHIPSET drivers?

Had exactly the same problem after a fresh install with Asus mobo and
Asus/GeForce card. Problem was solved by going back to the graphic drivers
(on CD) delivered with the Asus/GeForce, instead of latest version
downloaded from Nvidia (chipset drivers are included).

As another mentioned, make sure you have your motherboard
chipset driver(s) installed. Next install DirectX 9c
available for download from Microsoft. Nevermind if you
already have version 9c, just install it again.

After having installed DX9c, reboot, uninstall video card
driver and install the latest driver from nVidia.com, or
actually for that card, FX5200, a very new driver should not
be needed, even something from the 60-something or
70-something series should work, but I would go with at
least 80-something version or newer.
