Default linksys router

Hi all , I am having some trouble getting a linksys wired router to
work. The diag light stays red all of the time. I have tried to set it
up over and over with no luck. The model # is befsr41. v2. It has been
sitting in a box for about 3yrs. How can I upgrade the firmware while
it is in this condition? Any suggestions would be great.
thanks in advance,-J

That doesn't sound good. Mine has been running
24/7 for more than 3 years, with no problems.

Can you get to the setup pages with your browser?

Luck;
Ken

I have the same model but version 4. I see no "diag light". Do you
mean one of the other LEDs on the front?

Did you try to reset the device? If you push the reset button in the
back for only a few seconds, it just resets back to factory settings.
You have to keep pressed for over 30 seconds to do a hardware reset.
That's what the manual says (and it available online from Linksys).

No JTAG connections inside? Never done one, but you can supposedly fix a
bricked device if it's got a JTAG connector.

If it's a firmware problem, but this could be some other
problem.

IMO, the first place to look is the router manual, it may
tell what the red diag light means or give troubleshooting
steps like the timing to reset factory defaults when
powering on.
