Default Maxtor 80GB HDD D540X-4K not detected by BIOS

Hey Ppl,

I have jus one drive and it wasnt partioned, it has the OS and all the
datas. All of a sudden my system shut down and after that BIOS cant
detect my HDD. When i did some research it says that the firmware is
gone. Can i change the PCB board with the identical one so that i can
retrive my data, jus need the datas.

Also help me by suggesting some methods to retrieve the datas

Thanks a Lot

with regards
Ashok

Figure out why the system suddenly shut down first. That
problem isn't likely to go away by itself... maybe it was
the HDD PCB failing but there is insufficient evidence to
conclude it, and just losing firmware would not turn off a
system.

Yes if you had an identical drive you could try swapping
PCB. If the data is valuable you might first consult a data
recovery center to see what they'd charge.

Since the system itself is also suspect, I would try the
drive in another system before doing anything else.
