Figure out why the system suddenly shut down first. That
problem isn't likely to go away by itself... maybe it was
the HDD PCB failing but there is insufficient evidence to
conclude it, and just losing firmware would not turn off a
system.
Yes if you had an identical drive you could try swapping
PCB. If the data is valuable you might first consult a data
recovery center to see what they'd charge.
Since the system itself is also suspect, I would try the
drive in another system before doing anything else.
