Default Monitors

I shall probably build a new PC to run Vista next year and I am
anticipating that by buying a new monitor for Christmas. I am think of
a flat screen, 17" , and fast refresh rate.

Is there anything that I need to cater for if I run Vista?

Colin

Yes - MicroSlushes profit and impossible EULA. Just say no.

Being a newly released Microsoft package it will probably have many, many
features. Features are the Bill Gates name for bugs.

My ViewSonic VX2025wm 21" Widescreen LCD passed
the Microsoft evaluation program for Vista compatibility. It's
about the same height as a 17" display but a lot wider.

We should see stickers and ad blurbs on equipment that is
"Vista Ready" any day now.

Luck;
Ken

You'll love the flat screen monitor I'm sure...
Why not go for a 19" ?

BTW: I would not jump on the Vista bandwagon until it's been out for a while
and de-bugged!

With respect to the monitor, no. There shouldn't be any compatibility
issues with anything manufactured after 1998, or even earlier.

Now, the whole rest of the PC, that's another matter.

At least 1gb ram, large hard drive, and fast processor.

Minimum spec, per Microsoft, who may be lying:

800MHz
512MB Ram
20GB hdd

Last I've heard of the beta of vista (rc2), they're fighting some nasty
bog down issues, and issues with hibernation and various suspend
states. This was word of mouth, take it for what it's worth. Don't know
if it's been fixed since.

Check hardware compatibility list published by Microsoft. This is
doubly important if you plan to be one of the first to jump.

Most new hardware should be OK, just give it lots of RAM.
