User manual.
http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/...5A88-V_EVO.zip
"... maximum 16GB unbuffered ECC and non-ECC DDR3"
So it does appear to support ECC.
And unusual for Asus, the ECC BIOS screen is even documented in that
manual. There have been cases in the last few years, where the ECC
screen wasn't depicted in the manual, leaving a user to wonder
whether the ECC support was real or not.
The ECC support is part of the processor design. All it required is
wiring of ECC lanes to the four DIMM sockets, BIOS support, and OS
support.
On Intel processors, the ECC may be present in the processor design,
enabled on server SKUs and disabled on desktop SKUs. Whether that
helps consumers, is up for interpretation. Intel makes the decision
for you. AMD leaves it up to you.
