Default Mouse with 2 wheels instead of ball

I used to have a mouse with 2 wheels + decoders perpendicular to each
other insted of a ball. It worked well and was called @RNOeye. I was
using this mouse as a basis for a "replica" Engelbart mouse circa 1967.
I have made the wooden housing, but the mouse no longer works. Can
someone give me advice on mending the mouse, or do you know where I
could obtain a replacement? Searching on Google has led to two (old)
offers only; my emails were not answered. Many Thanks.
JAS

if you can post photo's on a group, maybe
alt.binaries.schematics.electronics you may get somebody there who knows
how to diagnose the problem, then get a local electronics tech to fix it.

What are the symptoms? Is it just dead or acting funny?
