Need advice buying a laptop.

I want to buy a laptop.
I know a lot about computers...
But... am a bit baffled when it comes to laptops.

What should I buy?

Celeron?
There's a lot of cheap models, even for well know brands.
BUT... from other posts... for advice on buying PC's...
I've been told to stay a mile away from Celeron's.

Pentium 4...?
2.8Ghz+ available.
A bit more expensive...
But I gather they weigh a ton? (Is this always the case?)

Centrino... I reckon this is the one I should go for!
Can someone confirm...?
The only thing I'm concerned with is the speed.
Generally... the speeds range from 1.3Ghz - 1.8+Ghz.
How does this compare to a P4 2.8??
And are Centrino's lighter?

Or... maybe I should consider an AMD chip latop??

I was thinking of going for the following laptop:

The only problem is that it weighs nearly 3KG. But... I'd be willing
to consider it because it's a tablet PC.

Any help would be appreciated.

What do you want to do with it? Games? Video editing? Photo manipulation?
Basic Windows? How much does battery power matter - is it a desktop
replacement or a laptop that you will actually carry around and need to use
for 6 hours without plugging in?

hmmm... very good point... i need to answer those questions obviously.

games - no, not needed.
photo manipulation, yes.
basic windows would do.
battery power - 6+ hours would be good, but would sacrifice for the
standard average if it meant price was cheaper.
desktop replacement - no.
weight needs to be lighter, but no need for usper ultra light weight.

Pentium 4: Hot and powerconsuming: two things you dont want in your notebook
Celeron M: Though I dont have much experience witch Celerons, I wouldn't
recommend that if you have another option (Pentium M/Turion)
Pentium M (that is the processor in a Centrino notebook): This is, as
you said, a great one: Fast, uses little power and thus stays cold.
Athlon 64: It was meant for the desktop but it has "Cool 'n Quiet",
meaning that it lowers its clock speed when idle.
Sempron/Athlon XP: They are faster than a Celeron and cooler than a
Pentium 4, but like the Celeron M: if there is another option, like
Pentium M and Turion, those are better.
Turion: AMD's answer to the Pentium M, but i'm not even sure you can buy
them yet...

My list:

1: Turion/Pentium M
2: Athlon 64
3: Athlon XP
4: Celeron M
5: Pentium 4

Centrino (Pentium M) will run cooler and give you longer battery life than
other formats, but lacks punch on processor heavy tasks. Generally a good
option though. Make sure you get plenty of RAM as upgrading in a laptop
normally means throwing away what you have and replacing with larger
modules. Sounds like you don't really need a processor heavy laptop, so save
a few pennies on the processor and get plenty of RAM and a big hard disk.
