Default Need Laptop Hard Drive

I have a Toshiba Satellite M35X-S309 that is missing its internal hard
drive. My Google searching tells me that it was a 4200RPM 60GB IDE,
possibly model 2.5" MK6021GAS, but I am not sure. I have become
confused. Probably a senior moment - there are many.

Before I order it, can someone tell me if the drive is the right one?
Are there other models?
Thanks

Wei

Yes, that drive will work just fine for your computer. The key thing is
the interface (ATA-100) and the form factor (2.5" 1/8H). The 1/8H
translates to about .4 inches. Do you you have a restoration DVD? If
not, I may be able to help you.

The slot measures about 2 1/2"W X 3/8"H tops. Seems ok. The
internals are pins not sata. I figure IDE.

By restoration DVD, you mean install disk? What would be on that?

Boot shows 'PXE E61: Media test failure, check cable'. Google
indicates most likely cause is a bad hard drive - which is missing as
I said. A new drive is worth a try to me, as long as it is not too
dear.

Be aware that some laptops use a 'carrier' to hold the hard drive whether
it be SATA or ATA. This is theoretically to protect the drive from
unspecified hazards but it really seems to be there to make replacements
difficult by altering dimensions and connector types. If I were you I'd
verify that the Toshiba will accept a bare hard drive before proceeding.
Been there done that. Several times...

Geez.........I wondered about that. Maybe a foam insulation would
suffice? I'll have to try to find verification somehow, somewhere.

Apparently laptop internal hard drives are usually supported with
something called a 'caddy', I have found some, mostly on EBay, for
other laptops, but not my Toshiba Satellite M35X.

Maybe I'll have to contact Toshiba.

Thanks for the tip.

Wow!

http://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index....products_id=81

shows the thing. $39!
Too much.
I do have the 'door' that holds the drive in the slot however. Just
do not have a 'tray'.

You probably want to look inside to see what kind of connector, too.
Some do additional stuff to change how the drive connects.

For sure.

It looks to be IDE - certainly not SATA. Two long rows of pins.
