Default Notebook advice

I need use program that should be connected to internet 24/5 days, so
notebook should be powered on all this time. So I need buy some cheap
notebook specifically just for this purpose only. As I dont want use my main
laptop for this. Any advices?

Is there some really cheap notebooks with Windows XP or win 7? What would be
approximate. power usage for 5 days, kilowatt-hours? [notebook + router]
Can someone calculate?

Thank you.

Why not get a used laptop ?

Try to find one locally, so you have more recourse if there are
problems with it.

You could also look for a used desktop. Some of those could be
pretty cheap. It all depends on how much CPU power you need,
as to whether that would be sufficient. If you're buying used
locally, you can also consider selling it back to the company
later. So it doesn't have to go to the landfill (garbage).

Why do you need a laptop?
All you need is a motherboard(all in one) and storage.
then a minimal power supply.
It will use less than a laptop.

Yes, just avoid any used desktop with a Pentium 4 (Prescott) CPU,
as these are power guzzlers. The more recent a system, the less
power it is likely to use. Using onboard graphics instead of a
plug-in card will save on electricity costs, too.

I use an old EEE701, which you can find on ebay, for displaying my
security camera output. It's small and unobtrusive, so I like it.

I don't have any experience with running Windows on it, but I know others
have made it work. You can check the EEE forums for advise.
