Default Are notebook Optical drives created equal for installation?

I have a winbook model XL2. The DVD drive (PLAYER) no longer works. I
think it is the motor that will not spin. Could that be a driver
(software problem) in the device manager it says that it is working
correctly.
I have seen drives on ebay for sale. Are notebook drives all the same
as to placement and configuration of the plug at the back? If so if I
would get one from ebay might I just replace it with a CD player
instead of a DVD player? I never used the DVD much. And or could I
possibly replace it with a burner either CD-R CD-RW and or DVD-RW
instead of a player? Do burners have differently configured plugs on
the back Vs a player?

The rear plugs are fairly common. Many drives use an adapter between the
drive and the laptop.

The hard part to match is the front plate. I've got a DVD-RW DL drive to
upgrade my HP laptop. The drive fits and works fine, but I can't put the
front face on it.
